What’s the role?

Our client, a well-known Global Investment Bank, is seeking an experienced Operational Risk Manager – Root Cause Specialist who will be responsible for analyzing thematic issues to identify the cause(s) of the problem and make recommendations for business improvements. The successful candidate will use multiple root cause analysis methods to discover the underlying or systemic problem to help prevent future occurrences, rather than the generalized or immediate causes of an incident. Candidates will be responsible for evaluating control design(s) and operating control effectiveness and assessing whether any identified root cause issues may affect other lines of business, products, or regions. Candidates will also work with senior leadership teams to review the results of the analysis and provide input into action plans designed to remediate the root cause(s) and implement internal controls and oversight to prevent further internal control-related concerns.

• Location: New Castle, DE (Hybrid Role - Onsite 2-3 days per week)
• Rate: $70-90/hr DOE
• Work Pattern: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, Standard Business Hours
• Start Dates: Immediate
• Duration: 6 months with the opportunity to extend/permanent hire

Your day-to-day activities will include:

• Conduct "deep dive" analyses on thematic issues to determine root cause and propose solutions
• Establish the root cause of identified issues and provide findings and recommendations for business improvements
• Prepare documentation for the tracking, monitoring, and escalation of risk related issues to management
• Provide support to assigned senior bank and risk management colleagues and issue management teams on development of effective corrective action plans, remediation approaches, timelines, compensating controls and documentation supporting work being performed
• Provide in-depth and sophisticated analysis with interpretive thinking to define problems, develop innovative solutions, and make recommendations that influence decisions of key business partners
• Support implementation of a 1st Line of Defense risk analytics program to incorporate NLP and Machine Learning results into key reporting and control forums
• Develop clear and concise reporting which allow end users to easily interpret analysis findings to make critical business decisions

What knowledge, skills & experience we need:

• Bachelor’s degree/equivalent or higher.
• 8+ years of experience in business and data analysis, process improvement and/or project management
• Strong understanding of Operational Risk & Control environment
• Ability to analyze Operational Risk datasets to identify key risks and document actions required to address each risk
• Strong ability to understand complex business processes and identify root causes for problems
• Ability to develop & communicate senior level reports outlining problems and recommending solutions to resolve
• Strong understanding of regulatory and reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of process engineering strategies, and process development
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to unexpected events
• Ability to function independently
• Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
