Kauffman Orchards is seeking an additional member on our orchard team. Our orchard division specializes in growing high quality apples, peaches, pears, plums and cherries for the Lancaster, PA region and beyond. The orchard operations assistant works with the orchard manager to support harvest operations and deliver fruit to the warehouse, apply pesticides and fertilizer with a tractor/sprayer, perform key functions on the apple packing line, operate a forklift in our bin yard and coolers, and perform hands-on pruning, thinning, and harvesting tasks with our orchard crew. This is a year 'round full-time position that provides a variety of work with the changing of the seasons.

Training, duties, and requirements:

• You will learn all basic fruit production skills with an attention to detail, steady pace, and gentleness with the trees and fruit.
• You will learn how to operate orchard equipment such as a tractor, sprayer, skid loader, flatbed truck, and forklift.
• You will learn how to safely apply pesticides and fertilizers with an airblast sprayer.
• You will work independently or with a small team of 2-10 workers depending on the task.
• You will assist the orchard managers with on-farm events and u-pick operations
• You must be able to lift 50 lbs. and express a full range of physical motion.
• You will learn the differences between our many varieties of fruit trees and their specialized needs.
• You will be expected to grow in your ability to perform tasks efficiently, effectively, and independently, and demonstrate the ability to stay on task with work of a repetitive nature.
• Work hours are approximately 40-50 hours per week depending on the season. Some Saturday work during harvest time, no Sunday work.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
