Overview:

Assist the Corps Officers in every way requested to carry out the spiritual and total mission of The

Cleveland Temple Corps of The Salvation Army in terms of community needs and our ministry to

the people of our community. Assist in the oversight of daily operations of the Cleveland Temple

Corps.

Responsibilities:
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a manner that brings glory to God.
  • Assist in every way requested to carry out the spiritual and total mission of The Cleveland Temple Corps of The Salvation Army in terms of community needs and our ministry to the people of our community.
  • Assist in the oversight of daily operations of the Cleveland Temple Corps.
  • Serve as a support to Corps Officers and Department Heads. Provide follow-up as necessary and appropriate.
  • Monitor Corps Officer’s calendar.
  • Keep maintenance team informed of upcoming events and special functions.
  • Spearhead projects as needed. Identify project subsets. Assign duties as necessary.
  • Assist the Corps Officers with developing and maintaining the highest level of stewardship of Salvation Army funds to include constant monitoring and improvement of both purchasing and internal controls.
  • In the absence of the Corps Officers, perform the administrative tasks needed to keep the Cleveland Temple functioning in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Communicate information to the staff as directed by the Corps Officers.
  • Facilitate the initial stages of hiring up to the recommendation of hire to the Corps Officers - process the appropriate employment documentation.
  • Oversee the recruitment and retention of volunteers.
  • Directly supervise the staff as indicated in the chain of command detailed in the organizational structure. Oversee volunteers, Court Community Services, and clientele from various county Work Experience Programs, and AARP rendering services to the Cleveland Temple Corps.
  • Recommend staff disciplinary action such as written and/or verbal warnings and terminations to the Corps Officers – facilitate the appropriate consequential documentation.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight to the Annual Red Kettle Campaign – secure kettle sites, assist in the recruitment and hiring of paid seasonal workers, train and coach seasonal staff, maintain positive rapport with store managers during the campaign, track net donation amounts at each kettle site, adjust daily kettle schedule to match level of giving at each site, inventory and order supplies as needed, drive to the kettle locations as necessary, etc.
  • Secure incident reports and provide follow-up to Corps Officers as necessary. Contact insurance company as directed by Corps Officers.
  • Record and distribute minutes for all Advisory Council and Staff meetings.
  • Centralize the filing of official administrative documents - often of a confidential nature.
  • Process, file, and transmit payroll data under the supervision of Corps Officers.
  • Prepare weekly deposits, deposit funds, and process all required income summary paperwork in accordance with established DHQ finance procedure.
  • Sort and distribute incoming postal correspondence.
  • Maintain copies of billings sent to headquarters for payments along with other administrative files and record keeping.
  • Arrange and compile monthly statistical data and expenses for deadlines to include, but not limited to, submissions of performance data and or compliance reports and daily attendance updates for the purpose of all grant reporting compliance.
  • Compile, distribute and file all staff memos and minutes of meetings.
  • Supervise and guide Computer Lab staff in maintaining and updating the Cleveland Temple Corps Website according to the Corps Officer’s direction.
  • Attend community events, at the direction of the Corps Officers.
  • Assist with driving responsibilities within the Corps, including delivering and picking up correspondence from Divisional Headquarters, as needed.
  • Ensure incoming telephone calls to the Cleveland Temple Corps are managed in a professional and efficient manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Operations Manager gives oversight to a staff of 6 employees as well as AARP, Volunteers and Community Service workers. The Operations Manager also assists the Corps Officers with the supervision of the other 13 positions at Cleveland Temple (a total of 19) in addition to the seasonal employees and volunteers. This includes annual evaluations and recommendations for hiring and firing of employees, with final approval coming from the Corps Officers. The Operations Manager will supervise the following employees:
  • Family Emergency Services Worker
  • Office Assistant
  • Custodian
  • Custodian
  • Custodian
  • Maintenance Position (shared with East Cleveland)
  • Other positions as mentioned above

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree (preferred) and 1-2 years business school or equivalent in business administration and secretarial and business / financial reporting

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills within The Salvation Army required
  • Strong knowledge of available neighborhood resources required
  • Must have a valid Ohio Drivers License and be able to drive for The Salvation Army
  • Must be passionate about the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the Cleveland Temple Corps.
