Job Summary:
The Operations Manager - Costuming is a leadership position that influences cast members in an entertainment operations line of business. You will ensure the leadership and development of salaried leaders that provide an organized and safe operation, promote a positive guest experience, increase team member engagement and safeguard our brand. You will lead teams responsible for the management and delivery of operations costumes, entertainment costumes, and cosmetology for the Disneyland Resort.
You will report to the General Manager -Disneyland Resort Entertainment Technical Services & Operations Costuming
Responsibilities:
- Manage, guide and develop a successful team of diverse Costuming and Cosmetology leaders to cultivate a spirit of steadfast diversity & inclusion through demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentoring and accountability as part of the Entertainment Services team
- Build strong relationships with key partners across the Disneyland Resort and Disney Live Entertainment
- Lead three separate operational teams of hourly union cast members, entertainment managers, and area managers, balancing opportunities for cross-functionality with unique specific needs of each business
- Partner closely with Labor Relations, Employee Relations, and HR partners to address and resolve Cast Member concerns and issues
- Set the standard on Guest service in this Cast-serving-Cast environment by presenting new and innovative ideas and technology solutions to help drive the Costuming and Cosmetology organization to new heights
- Be responsible for and handle all financial and operating logistics within Costuming and Cosmetology locations, including budgets, timelines, facility improvements, annual cycle planning, vendor management, new-technology use, show quality, scheduling, labor management, rehearsals and training
- Provide and maintain effective communication with executive leadership, internal and external partners
- Monitor operations for continual improvement to assure consistency, accuracy, and completeness; identify trends/areas of concern and proactively address to resolve
Core functions:
- Manage all aspects of Costuming and Cosmetology operations, including effective inventory management, mitigation of supply chain delays, long range planning, financial accountability, facility improvements, safety and communication
- Remove barriers and identify improvements daily in the operation and anticipate future staffing/ head count needs and plan accordingly
- Anticipate and address issues and initiate solutions in a timely manner
- Make all appropriate decisions regarding costuming concerns and respond to emergency situations in the appropriate manner
- Ensure costuming and cosmetology support is available for new product, rehearsals, and fittings
- Partner closely with Creative Development & Production, Entertainment Operations, Disneyland Costume Design & Development, Entertainment Costuming Production, Character Programs & Development, and Miller Warehouse on estimating and handling costume costs, delivery, storage space, labor, laundry and inventory needs to support the Disneyland Resort.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in decision making and planning
- Provide connectivity and resolution to any Cast issues by meeting routinely with your Partners
- Mentor and develop direct reports to ensure their success in the Costuming organization, including appropriate merit ratings and performance planning communication
- Schedule and conduct team meetings to discuss issues and communicate relevant information
- Experience working with collective bargaining agreements
- Identify efficiencies and opportunity to reduce costs while maintaining a high-quality product
- Ensure current technology is used to optimize and continue to look for opportunity to implement technology that keeps us on the cutting edge
- Partner and support the hiring and training process by providing information to the appropriate team
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years management experience or equivalent
- Strong coaching and leadership skills
- Excellent negotiation and influencing abilities
- Ability to manage conflict/resolution
- Problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as continuous improvement process skills
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including weekends and holidays
Desired qualifications:
- Background or experience in theater, garment manufacturing or fashion industries
- Familiar with the Costuming and Entertainment Organization
The hiring range for this position in California is $134,972.00-$181,060.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
