The Scribe will work collaboratively with the clinic physicians to perform basic, advanced and complex manual and automated medical tests to allow for proper medical diagnosis. The Scribe will enter doctors notes and treatment plan in Electronic Health Record (EHR). Must be able to document physician examination plan, e- prescribe medications and complete templates as required under NextGen EMR. Must be well organized and have the ability to work in team-oriented environment, have excellent computer skills, communicate effectively with patients, physicians and staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments and schedule; demonstrate commitment to ongoing education and uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Document physician documentation in EMR
  • Medically assist the doctor through the patient examination
  • Document any procedures that may be performed by the physician or ophthalmic medical personnel
  • Transcribe the history, examination, impression, plan, results of tests, prescriptions, and orders
  • E-prescribe medications in EMR
  • Measure pupil size and reactivity
  • Corneal topography
  • Fundus Photos
  • Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement
  • Retinal thickness and topography
  • Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures and triage phone calls
  • Prepare examination rooms to provide all needed medications, forms, educational materials, etc.
  • Coordinate surgical needs with the surgical counselors
  • Coordinate with check-in and check-out staff regarding patients
  • Create and provide a positive, accountable and inspired work environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • One year of ophthalmic scribe/technician experience in ophthalmology setting (or equivalent related ability) preferred
  • COT or COA certification and Ophthalmology knowledge or Medical/ Ophthalmic Scribe experience desired
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in EMR and computer literacy
  • Well organized and attentive to detail
