The full continuum of River Edge Behavioral Health services includes state-of-the-art treatment and support services for more than 13,000 children, youth, families and adults annually, who experience mental illness, addiction, co-occurring disorders, and developmental disabilities.


River Edge is looking to fill the position of Outreach Specialist with/at our Community Mental Health Center (CMHC).

In this position you will:

Work under the supervision of the CMHC Project Director, as a social service professional who works directly with the community to promote health and wellness. The Outreach Specialist will facilitate outreach and community engagement across the agency's assigned areas and deliver 80% of daily services outside of the clinic.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand the zip code zone identification and engagement strategy to reach minority and disadvantaged populations
  • Prioritize the zip code zones meeting criteria by population density
  • Work in the priority zones to identify and build relationships with referent leaders, educate them about mental illness, severe emotional disturbance and co-occurring disorders as well as available treatment
  • Work with communications specialist to have materials outlining shared information as literacy-level-appropriate leave-behinds
  • Leverage built relationships with referent leaders to build relationships in the target zones and share information to reduce stigma of behavioral health conditions, provide accurate information, and engage individuals needing care into care
  • Work with CMHC case managers and other clinical leaders to assure relational linkage


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fully Covid vaccinated
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a social service related field (social work, sociology, psychology, etc.)
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Adult Community Mental Health and Addictive Disease services
  • Experience in social service delivery, behavioral health and/or community outreach is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
