The Lumistella Company is looking for an experienced Packaging/Graphic Artist to join our team! The Packaging/Graphic Designer assists the Sr. Packaging Designer in creating, implementing, and developing packaging consistent with The Lumistella Company brands, current trends and overall product strategies. This process involves the creation of graphics for packaging, the creation of accurate high quality packaging print-ready files, the conceptualization of new structures and systems, and the modification or reconfiguration of existing packaging structures.

The ideal Packaging/Graphic Artist will bring:
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in graphic design related to packaging and print production;
- Strong sense of design;
- Solid understanding of packaging design;
- Solid understanding of the printing process, materials and the creation of art files for printing;
- Demonstrated understanding of die-lines (capable of executing modifications, scaling, and adaptations), structural configuration and 3D forms, and experience with visual identity, branding guidelines, compliance, and design systems for packaging;
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Illustrator (CC or CS) and advanced knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign (CC or CS) required;
- Technical aptitude with the ability to prepare, package, and pre-flight files for production purposes and proven experience proofreading artwork mechanicals and printer’s proofs;
- Strong layout skills and design sensibilities with solid understanding of typography, layout and brand identity principles and distinct passion for packaging;
- Experience mocking up packaging and displays;
- Experience in the consumer products industry required;
- General knowledge of toys and/or children’s books preferred;
- Knowledge of software specific for packaging and structural design like CAD, EngView Package Designer Suite, or ArtiosCAD, and other 3D software a plus;
- Intermediate knowledge Microsoft Office required and internet savvy;
- Experience with 3D rendering and illustration a plus;
- Solid planning and organizational skills, including a pro-active ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines—must thrive in a fast-paced environment with short turnaround times and multiple simultaneous project demands;
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, verbally and visually, and willingness to receive team member feedback or criticism;
- Highly skilled with project plans and creative problem solving with professional sense of urgency for task completion and communication—ability to take initiative and work independently;
- Ability to understand roles and responsibilities of team members within different functional areas of the project team and how and when they contribute to each phase of packaging design projects; and
- Resourceful and cooperative in working with team members to obtain information, gain alignment and to keep projects moving.
- Creates original package designs in conjunction with Director of Packaging and maintains design intent through print production processes;
- Collaborates with the Director of Packaging and Packaging Team in the ideation and development of redesigns for existing packaging;
- Assists the Director of Packaging with the creation of rough layouts, refinement of rough layouts or sketches into final concepts for internal presentations and partners with cross-functional
- team members to move projects through the process from concept development through file
- release for production;
- Creates final packaging art files for printing purposes and certifies that files meet printing specs;
- Works closely with Sr. Production Artist to accurately prepare and pre-flight final artwork files to submit to printers and certifies that files contain all required elements;
- Adapts designs to several SKUs within the product line, following and maintaining existing brand
- and style guidelines;
- Updates packaging art files for reprints as needed;
- Works closely with the Director of Packaging and other stakeholders to ensure brand adherence, legal compliance, quality and mechanical accuracy of artwork;
- Assists with reviewing proofs submitted by printers for 100% accuracy;
- Builds comps and 3D mockups for internal review within the Art and PD departments;
- Supports Sales and Marketing teams with mockups, presentation boards and prototypes as needed;
- Maintains and monitors all schedules to ensure adherence to deadlines;
- Assists with the organization, maintenance, and archiving of proofs, packaging art files and samples;
- Keeps packaging files up to date;
- Ensures accuracy of files and placement of safety information, as well as necessary regulatory information like ISBN/UPC codes, and manufacturing information;
- Presents designs to management; Confers with marketing, production, and/or sales departments to discuss and evaluate design concepts;
- Provides process improvement suggestions to the Director of Packaging;
- Supports Art department with graphics, signage, and miscellaneous art requests;
- Supports PD Team with product designs and graphics;
- Contributes to the ideation and planning of photo-shoots;
- Stays current with competitive landscape and emerging trends to incorporate into packaging and
- Protects company assets through the proper management of asset files and adherence to company policy with regard to information security and management.
Education requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Design or Graphic Design with emphasis on Packaging (proof of experience/portfolio in Packaging required).
Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, and manual dexterity for working with computer keyboards.
- Requires the ability to use paper/board cutting tools (X-Acto knife) to assemble mockups.
