JOB TITLE: Parent Outreach Ambassador - Temporary

SALARY RANGE: $20/hour; Part-time temporary

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Early Childhood Education Enrollment Recruiter, the Parent Outreach Ambassador will engage in outreach activities to educate communities about, and support enrollment in, Early Childhood and Education programs, including the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), Early Intervention, Head Start/Early Head Start, and Preschool for all activities, include canvassing neighborhoods, staffing outreach events, and supporting city-wide enrollment fairs. The Parent Outreach Ambassador will work collaboratively with other Outreach Ambassadors, IAFC staff, and partner agencies. The position is non-exempt, part-time, temporary and ends March 2023.
This incumbent will be expected to promote and adhere to the workplace core capabilities of accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement (CQI), communication, competent people, and clear priorities. All work to be completed with minimum supervision and in accordance with organizational standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The organization reserves the right to add to, delete, change, or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.
  • Becoming knowledgeable about Early Childhood Education programs and provide program information at community events and through community-based organizations and neighborhood outreach.
  • Work with families and communities to identify early learning needs and connect eligible families to programs.
  • Represent IAFC and Family Focus with professionalism and build relationships with parents and program leaders.
  • Update weekly calendar of activities and scheduled visits, attend and participate in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Collect data and prepare reports on paper forms and/or in computer databases.
  • Share information with families about Early Childhood Education resources available at a variety of locations (grocery store, neighborhood door-to-door, community colleges, etc.).
  • Other Functions: The organization may assign other functions to the job at its discretion.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform.
The employee must regularly operate a word-processing system and therefore must be able to read, produce and transmit data on such a system.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
In addition to occasional in-office time, most of the work of this position will be field based. Regular travel throughout the City of Chicago is required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • 18 years and above or at least one year of professional work experience.
  • Related professional experience in community outreach. Access to a car with valid driver’s license and auto insurance required and willing to travel locally
  • Bilingual in another language strongly preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English and another language. Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
