The purpose of this classification is to perform cleaning, grounds maintenance, landscaping, and general maintenance tasks at parks, cemeteries and community centers in Consolidated Government parks and facilities within the guidelines of county safety policies and procedures, departmental rules and regulations, supervior's instructions, and standing or special work orders. Works with co-workers and the general public to provide maintennce service.

• Performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice, etc.
• Performs maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and facilities: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences and playground equipment; builds sets and staging, shelves and other items; and performs light plumbing, electrical, masonry and carpentry repairs, etc.
• Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuums carpets; hoses decks; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows; empties trash; and sets ups and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events.
• Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: gathers supplies and equipment to complete work assignments; transports supplies to and from work site; initiates orders for materials and equipment needed; and maintains related documentation.
• Operates or uses a Consolidated Government-owned vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments such as lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheel barrel, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, backhoes, and other power or motorized equipment.
• Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: One (1) year of experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Considerable knowledge of landscape maintenance methods and procedures
• Proficiency in operating mowing equipment, light/medium duty equipment and driving a truck w/ trailer
• Good Communications skills, both oral and written
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.
This position does require travel to other locations more than 50% of the time.
