Fearless! (formerly known as Safe Homes of Orange County) is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3), which has grown from a grassroots, small group of committed individuals in 1986 to an organization, leader, and resource in the field of intimate partner violence and human trafficking advocacy and services provision. Our many programs include a
Family Justice Center, emergency shelter, legal program, anti-trafficking program, individual and group support, advocacy, therapeutic counseling, Risk Reduction Response Programs, systems-based advocacy and collaboration, community education, and outreach, throughout Orange and Sullivan Counties.

Role Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, The HR Business Partner is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of Human Resources for the organization ensuring sound and consistent practices and compliance. The HR Business Partner will be responsible for recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, orientation, performance management, compliance, employee relations, and working with internal and external resources. This is a part-time position, working 25 hours per week M-F on-site.

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Areas of Work

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to create job postings, ensure postings are updated as roles evolve
  • Review resumes and conduct initial phone screens; forward top candidates for first round interviews.

Onboarding/Orientation:

  • Create a more robust orientation program on a monthly basis that includes review of basic/key policies for all employees and ensures a thorough understanding of Benefits offerings, working with agency PEO to ensure appropriate communications around Benefits and acting as a general point of contact for day-to- day questions.
  • Work with Senior Leadership team to participate in quarterly larger staff orientation to discuss critical policies, provide managers with performance management training and how-to’s on coaching, counseling, and escalation of performance issues.
  • Create consistent new hire and off-boarding announcements for agency.

Employee Relations:

  • Lead all employee relations investigations. Partner with managers, staff, agency PEO and outside counsel when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to managers and employees; assist managers with performance issues.

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including VOCA and

VAWA and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

Performance Management:

  • Initiate bi-annual Performance Review Process; communicate process to employees and managers, meet with managers on specific performance issues, PIPs, and conduct general audit of all reviews and working with managers to ensure strong, clear documentation.
  • Collaborate with PEO to automate the Performance Review Process; make recommendations for changes to form and process.
  • Research and roll out appropriate engagement surveys; report findings and make appropriate recommendations to Senior Leadership team.

Offboarding:

  • Work with managers to ensure proper documentation related to resignations/terminations; work with the

PEO, Finance and IT to facilitate changes; and create consistent and appropriate communication.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5-7 years of related experience required; mostly in a non-profit environment.
  • Alignment with Fearless HV’s mission or previous experience in a social justice or domestic violence organization preferred.
  • Experience making decisions as the lead HR professional, managing strategic and hands-on operational needs, and partnering with the senior leadership team.
  • Broad HR generalist experience with previous employee relations experience to include coaching managers, providing guidance and leadership on complex issues and investigations, and terminations and layoffs.
  • Experience creating and managing the performance review process.
  • Experience creating and delivering orientations for staff and managers.
  • Experience working with PEO’s and HR Vendors highly preferred.
  • Strong MS Office skills required; Excel, PowerPoint and Word, MS Teams, Zoom and database applications.
  • Proficiency in researching and implementing applicant tracking and HRIS technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, crisis-oriented environment: assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, maintain organization, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information; work independently as well as cooperatively with management and staff; willingness to appreciate different points of view and problem solve in a constructive manner; and the ability to respond to complex problem-solving in a timely manner.
  • Model and uphold appropriate boundaries in work with colleagues, build effective working relationships with others, communicate as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong assessment skills and judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions

Salary and Benefits: This part-time exempt position will be pro-rated based on an annual salary of $60,000 -
$70,000.
