JOB OPPORTUNITY with the Glenview Park District:
Part Time Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY

The Grove is 145 acres of ecologically diverse prairie grove land preserved and maintained by the Glenview Park District. The Grove was the home of horticulturist and educator, Dr. John Kennicott and his son, Robert Kennicott, Illinois’s first naturalist. The Grove was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976 and a partner with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Chicago Wilderness. The Grove offers educational programs, special events, and is open for regular visitation by the general public. Part-time maintenance staff duties include:

• General building maintenance and repair.
• Assists with construction projects.
• Cleans the interiors of buildings thoroughly (washing floors, windows, cleaning bathrooms & kitchen, etc.).
• Performs all seasonal work assignments (snow removal, salting, etc.).
• Completes landscaping activities (mowing, raking, chipping, etc.).
• Performs set-up and tear-down for programs and events.
• Removes garbage and disposes of properly.
• Maintains all tools, equipment, machinery, and mechanical systems.
• Routinely inspects furnishings and landscaping
• Identify and repair or report any failures or hazards.
• Secures each location before leaving site, checking security.
• Other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years or older, with high school diploma, plus 1-2 years relevant experience desirable
• Good physical condition, sufficient strength, and mobility required.
• Mechanical aptitude required, including the use of tools, equipment, and machinery.
• Ability to read and follow manuals and operating instructions.
• Skills in general maintenance, repair, mechanics, construction, carpentry, and landscaping
• Knowledge of (and ability to use) grounds equipment
• Knowledge of (and ability to use) power equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
• Knowledge of (and ability to perform) interior and exterior painting, staining and sealing
• Ability to work efficiently either independently or as a team member
• Ability to recognize and communicate structural or safety problems or defects

SCHEDULING & PAY

This is a part time, year-round position working a varied schedule. Schedule will include week days, evenings, and some weekends as required. Approximately 16-24 hours / week and will vary based on season and business need. Target hiring range begins at $15.00/ hour, depending on qualifications.
