The Social Media Specialist/Content Creator will collaborate with the social media committee to ideate, research, plan, create, and post content for the Parkland College official social media channels. This position will report to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations and work closely with the communication specialist and graphic designers as a key member of the social media content planning and editorial team.
The Social Media Specialist/Content Creator is a part-time, 19-hour/week appointment on a schedule established by the Director of Marketing and Public Relations. The position involves completing assigned projects within deadline, handling multiple tasks simultaneously, and the possible exposure to confidential information.
The position requires knowledge of and posting experience with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok as well as skills in copywriting, interviewing, photography, graphic design, and videography for social media. The Social Media Specialist/Content Creator will have a passion and enthusiasm for all things social media, remain current with social media trends, be self-motivated and work well as part of a team.
Essential Job Functions
- Collaborate with the social media committee to brainstorm, research, and plan content for Parkland College channels
- Interview students, faculty members, staff, alumni, and key stakeholders for social media content
- Write content, capture photos and video, and create graphics and short videos
- Help monitor Parkland College social media channel engagement and report on channel analytics
- Assist with content creation for liaison accounts and program specific campaigns
- Track emerging social media trends
- Work with student interns
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- An Associate degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design or a related field and one (1) year of experience managing social media for an institution or business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current knowledge of and posting experience with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
- Skills in copywriting, interviewing, photography, graphic design, and videography for social media.
- Ability to prioritize, handle a heavy workload, and meet tight deadlines.
- Must be able to think strategically, communicate clearly, and work diplomatically with a variety of clients.
