Part-Time Teacher in NYC Job at Learning Across America
Learning Across America, in conjunction with Towson University, provides educational opportunities for au pairs, ranging in age from 18 to 26, seeking to fulfill their J-1 Visa requirement for post-secondary academic credits by offering fun, convenient, budget-friendly learning experiences that take them beyond the classroom to the very destination they choose to study.
As a NYC classroom teacher for Learning Across America, you’ll be implementing an intentionally designed, fully developed continuing education curriculum focused on the history of immigration and its impact on the cultural diversity of NYC, and NYC as a destination to visit.
Classes typically take place over a two day weekend (a total of 9 hours of in-class instruction time) and are paired with out-and-about on-tour learning with a NYC tour guide. Classroom instruction includes lectures, multimedia presentations, small group classwork, and discussions. Teachers can expect to dedicate approximately 15 hours to the course (includes class prep, teaching of class / in person class time, grading of one post-assignment and reporting).
We plan to offer this course every 5-8 weeks in 2023.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and ability to effectively deliver course content in an informative and entertaining manner.
- Evaluate students (pass / fail) toward achievement of stated course objectives.
- Communicate with students, as needed, in a professional and timely manner.
- Keep accurate student records and submit attendance and grading within requested timelines.
- Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom (i.e., “smart” classroom) and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) and the ability to teach effectively.
Prior experience with English Language Learners and / or working with young international adults a plus!
Compensation:
Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience. ($40 - $50 / hr)
