CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Party Chief to join our Surveying & ROW Field Operations Team, located in Houston/Cypress, TX.

The Party Chief reports to the Supervising Surveyor and is responsible for survey field crews to complete various assigned tasks involving survey field work necessary for job completion.

To be successful in this role you will:

Essential Functions:

  • Direct the operation of a two or three-man survey party consisting of a Survey Aide IV along with one other Survey Aide (I, II or II).
  • Perform the necessary surveying, staking, and mathematical calculations required for obtaining easements, permits for, and construction of, overhead or underground distribution and transmission lines.
  • Accomplish the necessary vertical work to obtain elevations required for topographic surveys; subsidence studies; and navigable stream, railroad, and Core Permits, etc.
  • Make routine boundary or right of way surveys under the direction a Registered Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Train the survey party in accordance with good surveying practices and procedures.
  • Maintain close communication with the Supervising Surveyor and/or the Crew Coordinator via consultation notes, telephone, and email.
  • Tracking and reporting all field crew time and job status via daily time sheet.
  • Draws complete and accurate set of field notes along with written reports.
  • Calculates and stakes locations to determine where gas & electric, transmission, substation and distribution infrastructure are to be built.
  • Determines property boundary lines and calculate easement locations for Company facilities.

Safety:

  • Provide leadership and guidance promoting safe working practices by observing all Company and crew safety practices along with daily safety discussions relating to the work at hand.

Your background should include:

Education:

  • Requires a High School or equivalent required or Associate's Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 1+ years’ experience as a Survey Instrument Tech.
  • Basic understanding of construction plans and maps (i.e., site plans, boundary plans, highway plans, profile and cross sessions, horizontal and vertical curves, pipeline plans, foundation plans and map contours).

Working Conditions:

  • Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Able to work in a field environment which may include construction sites located away from paved roads, and may involve crossing through mud, debris, heavy foliage, creeks or pastureland.
  • Able to adapt to changing work schedules.
  • Able to work overtime, scheduled and/or unscheduled as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Able to travel out of town travel occasionally
  • Able to perform Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) assignments which involve long workdays and challenging field conditions following major storms.
