Job Title: Payer Relationship Specialist
Reports To: Revenue Cycle Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the Billing team, this person is responsible for fulfilling the role of the insurance billing life cycle of a patient. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the entire billing life cycle of a patient, to include verifications, pre-authorization, utilization review, appeals, claims submission, claims adjudication, and denials. The Payer Relationship Specialist will be responsible for working with the Billing team and assigned payers to ensure timely billing and payment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Completes verification of benefits for potential patients
  • Reviews refund requests from insurance companies
  • Files appeals and resubmit claims as needed
  • Denial management
  • Collaborates with patient responsibility account specialists as necessary
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines
  • Supports and promotes Northpoint’s philosophy and Company mission
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in medical billing and payer relations
  • 1-2 years of commercial medical insurance billing experience
  • Strong understanding of commercial health insurance and claims submission
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with major payer guidelines
  • Exhibits an understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding regulations and guidelines
  • Experience with technical aspects of electronic medical billing

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Quickly and effectively identify and resolve problematic situations
  • Comfortable analyzing information and dealing with complexity
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to handle confidential material in a reliable manner
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of organization
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Exposure to emtionally impaired patients/clients is possible, though this position is not located in a treatment facility setting, and patient/client interaction will be infrequent

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Completion of a tuberculin screening during first week of employment
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug screening, post-accident and random for upon reasonable suspicion of use
  • Completion of orientation and required paperwork prior to reporting to work
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
  • Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training
  • Completion of background and reference checks
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
