Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Payroll Coordinator to join our dedicated HR team in this hybrid position. This position works primarily remote (90%) with ad hoc needs to visit our Germantown, NY site. Qualified candidates will reside within proximity to our NY sites and be comfortable working Eastern standard hours.

- The Starting Pay: $55,000, based on experience. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

The Role:
As a member of the HR Team, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for processing weekly payroll and associated reporting for US employees according to state and federal regulations and company policy. This individual will oversee the data entry for employee information in the HRIS and ensures accurate documentation and reporting for global employee data. A keen eye for detail, high regard for compliance, and emphasis on customer service is a must for this position.
Duties of the Payroll Coordinator include the following:
- Administer weekly US payroll in accordance with approved policies and applicable law
- Ensure timely and accurate processing based on established schedule
- Review and approve weekly time sheets and communicate with supervisors to resolve any discrepancies. Check payroll information for accuracy and ensure all relevant documentation is in order
- Responsible for electronic payment and distribution of payroll checks
- Process other forms of compensation throughout the year (e.g., manual checks, quarterly sales commissions, merit increases, annual bonuses, and severance pay)
- Responsible for entry of benefit deductions, retirement contributions, and other fringe benefits into payroll system
- Ensure compliance with rules and regulations as they relate to payroll processing (e.g., wage garnishments, tax withholdings, paid family leave, PTO payouts, meal breaks, etc.)
- Complete any required state, local, or federal tax filings and payments (e.g., 941, W2, state income tax, unemployment tax, etc.).
- Ensure all payroll records/files and documentation are accessible and meet records retention requirements
- Maintain and update employee data within ADP, including HR and personnel records
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of global employee data. Perform audits of data on a regular basis
- Primary contact for employees and managers for payroll-related questions
- Monitor the Taconic HR email account and field inquiries as applicable
- Prepares reports as scheduled or requested by management
- Track and report established HR metrics
- Document HR procedures to ensure uniform practices
- Recommend process improvements to maximize HR productivity and efficiency
- Coordinates with and assists outside auditors with any annual payroll audits (i.e.: Workers Compensation vendor, financial audit, 401k audit, Wage/Hour audits, etc.)
- Completes routine administrative duties such as employment verification, wage histories, name changes, address updates, and miscellaneous projects as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director Compensation and Benefits
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or technical/managerial experience at an equivalent level
- Certified Payroll Professional (CCP) certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience and/or training
- Experience working in ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll & HRIS systems
- Proficient user of Excel (pivot tables, v-look ups, basic formulas, etc.)
- Experience in skilled or technical assignments requiring previous training to perform operations and resolve problems where some guidelines or standards are provided
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
- Ability to actively listen and understand information presented by people with different communication styles and different points of view
- Ability to write reports, procedural instructions, and/or policies
Internet:
- This role requires reliable internet service, Taconic requires a minimum speed of 200 MPS to be obtained. A stipend of $25 per pay period is provided to aid in this request. Employees who cannot or will not get improved internet service are welcome to work at a Taconic office of their choice.
