Monday-Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm

Full-time (40/hour per week)

Locations available: Functions of this position will be completed at our Newport and Morristown, TN

About our Peer Support Center Specialist:

Our Peer Support Center Specialist is an integral part of our Peer Support team. The Peer Support Center Specialist has lived experience with behavioral health issues and uses the experience to provide services to our behavioral health patients. The services include social, educational, and recreational activities that promote behavioral health recovery for patient in the community.

What we are looking for:

A compassionate patient-focused individual that has a high school diploma or equivalent and possess or be able to pursue a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Certification. The individual must possess a valid TN driver license and be able to some travel, mostly local or regional, with occasional extended travel for training purposes.

What you will do:

  • Maintains or is prepared to pursue becoming certified as Peer Recovery Specialist with the TN Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services within one year of hire.
  • Provides support, mentoring, education, and person-centered assistance to promote recovery and wellness
  • Provides information about skills related to health, wellness, and recovery
  • Coaches individuals about how to access treatment and services and how to navigate the health care system
  • Documents information and data components as required by program/agency policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with all HIPAA regulations according to Cherokee Health Systems policy and procedure.
  • Attend required trainings and agency meetings
  • Attend clinical supervision meetings as scheduled
  • Helps individuals to function as a member of their treatment/recovery support team
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team
  • Reaches out to engage patients throughout the recovery process
  • Use Motivational Interviewing techniques and Active Listening skills to work with individuals toward successful and lasting behavioral change
  • Promote successful self-management skills
  • Assist the patient with skills for setting goals, solving problems, and making decisions
  • Recognizes signs of distress and threats to safety among service recipients and in their environments and responds appropriately
  • Assists individuals in developing harm reduction and other crisis prevention tools
  • Uses respectful, person-centered, recovery-oriented language in written and verbal interactions with peers, family members, community members, and others
  • Maintain a positive standing in peer/professional communities
  • Other duties as assigned.
