Description:

Under direct supervision, position assists in the service delivery program to consumers and performs related work as required. The Peer Support Specialist I differ from the Peer Support Specialist II in that this person requires training and support to develop the ability to independently handle responsibilities in the basic program services delivery. As an entry level consumer support position, the emphasis is the necessary training and professional development needed to become an independent participant as a full member of the service delivery team. May provide transportation of clients.

• Provide direct advocacy and support to consumers.
• Interact with staff and public.
• Provide telephone support to consumers and link to resources
• Document calls and demographics
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  

What I bring

• HS/GED
• MH First Aid and Peer Support Training through Tulare Co.
• Must be a current or past consumer of mental health services or a family member of a consumer if program required.
• Basic understanding and appreciation of wellness and recovery principles.
• Interest in obtaining the knowledge of the philosophy and goals of program assigned; common practices and procedures in wellness and recovery interaction with clients.
• Must be engaged in personal wellness and recovery of a consumer.
• Demonstrated interest in the care of individuals with mental illness.
  Must meet employment eligibility requirements as established by the program's funding agency.
