Purpose of the Position

To prevent actual or potential product adulteration from rodents, insects, birds and other pests. To ensure that Simmons facilities meet all SQF and FSMA Standards.

Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.

Administers an Integrated Pest Management Systems (IPM) approach for Simmons Pet Food. Ensures all pest control records and other documentation are filed as well as stored electronically and properly maintained. Works with third party vendors on application of pesticides as required by law. Participate in weekly service with pest service technicians and make recommendations based on findings. Performs weekly and bi weekly inspections of all Simmons Dry facilities (DPF, SSW, Treats). Assign tasks based upon inspections. Maintains Simmons pest threshold KPI’s. Notifies appropriate personnel of pest control issues, food safety issues, human safety issues, and maintenance issues. Maintain all pest control certifications. Maintain all pest devices in compliance with SQF and FSMA. Documents all plant repairs, food safety and human safety requests.

Create a Continuous Improvement Culture. Develops a continuous improvement culture for employees by sharing pest control knowledge through annual training sessions and Town Hall content. Represent Simmons as a Pest Control expert to our Customers and participate in all customer and third party audits. Improve in processes as well as continually find ways to drive out waste.

Identifies food safety issues to maintain SQF and FSMA audit readiness. Shutdown processing equipment when warranted. Work with Shift Manager, Maintenance and QA support to resolve plant issues prior to returning the processing equipment into service. Make recommendations on new construction and new acquisitions related to facility design and food readiness.

Manages proper safety practices during IPM processes. Verify that warning signs are posted and building doors are locked and secured prior to fumigating or plant fogging. Ensures personnel are following proper labeling & (MSDS’s) procedures. Maintains personnel schedule to meet plant needs on a moment’s notice. Work with production to schedule fogging and plant fumigations.

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, Lean); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Climb ladders and bins in excess of 45’. Maneuver in tight spaces. Move items of 55-80+ lbs. in weight from one place to another. Able to differentiate between colors. Able to work in extreme temperature conditions (very hot or very cold). Bending, crawling and reaching. Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property. May travel via car or plane to various work locations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): As required by visiting facility.

Travel: Travel to and from multiple facilities or work-sites

Technical Experience: At least 2 years supervisory experience which involved working with a team to resolve issues, understanding plant process flow, leading direct reports, gaining high agreement with application of Lean rules, demonstrating results for their area of responsibility. Preferred prior pest management experience. Ability to acquire Department of Agriculture Core – 00 and Category 11.

Industry Experience: Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology used to control pests and thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of pesticides. Proper pest identification, food plant audit training, plant design experience. Know the appropriate application and handling techniques for all pesticides.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a Science Discipline or 4 years related experience
