This position requires the ability to function independently in the areas of accessing, phlebotomy, client services, and is responsible for the training and maintaining of skills of lab personnel performing phlebotomy (in-patient as well as outpatient), send outs and clerical duties. Training for and services provided by this position are appropriate to patients of all age groups.
- Performs phlebotomies (venipuncture, finger sticks) correctly, safely and in a timely manner appropriate to the age and condition of the patient
- Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time
- Monitors glucose levels by performing bedside glucose tests, recording results, and reporting results to unit nurse-manager
- Performs bleeding-times tests by entering results to the computer, notifying pathologist of results falling outside normal ranges
- Performs EKG testing on P.A.T. patients as requested
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma
Preferred Job Requirements:
- 1-year minimum previous hospital experience strongly preferred
- Phlebotomy Certification
- Skilled using butterfly needles and collecting blood cultures
