POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. The PTA implements selected components of treatment, obtains data related to the treatments provided, and makes modifications in selected treatments either to progress the patient as directed by the physical therapist or to ensure patient safety and comfort. This person will be called upon to exercise initiative and independence that will allow the Physical Therapist’s treatment plans to run smoothly.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Current license as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
  • 3+ years’ clinical experience preferred.
  • Must possess a caring and compassionate demeanor.
  • Home health experience a plus.
  • Ability to travel to other congressional locations for treating patients.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Good Judgement and Critical Thinking skills
  • Must be fully COVID vaccinated
  • Strong written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.


RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but is not limited to):

  • Identify patient care issues by providing information and commentary, recommending options and courses of action, implementing physical therapy directives and documenting subsequent treatment.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying therapy histories.
  • Assesses abnormal conditions by reviewing physical therapist's interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities; and in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and development information, promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Maintains production objectives by noting current treatment trends; monitoring actual physical therapy services rendered to production objectives.
  • Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to policies concerning federal, state, and local regulations, and standards; anticipating emerging issues.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations, etc.
  • Know and carry out the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph to build unity among all created beings and promote a work environment that is characterized by respect, trust, integrity, ethical behavior, fair treatment of all, open communications, and personal accountability.
  • Performs other duties as requested.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Stand, walk and sit for long periods of time

Occasionally lifting up (up to 125 lbs.)

Carrying, pushing and pulling up to 125lbs

Frequently crouching, crawling, stooping, kneeling

Compensation for this position is based according to market rate and experience level.
