Key Functions and Responsibilities
The Plant Manager/Site Leader will be involved in a variety of activities including, but not limited to, the following:
Safety
- Carlisle expects everyone to follow all safety guidelines and procedures, including those around machine guarding and Personal Protective Equipment.
- We expect every employee to intervene and raise any violation of the 10 Carlisle Safety Absolutes.
- Maintain awareness of your surroundings. Report unsafe conditions and near-miss, first-aid, and other incidents immediately. Respectfully intervene or report unsafe behavior (example: someone not wearing proper PPE).
- This role is expected to lead the safety behavior observation process. Ensure safety and quality responsibility is shared by every person.
- We expect our leaders to learn and utilize ‘3 deep’ methodology to develop action plans and countermeasures to safety, quality, and delivery performance needs and issues.
- Ensure safety, quality, and COS implementation and maturity are responsibilities shared by every person.
- Ensure all recordable injuries and ‘SIF’-type near-miss events are raised to business and Carlisle leadership within 24 hours. Enforce usage of the standard Incident Investigation process and form.
- Perform safety-dedicated gemba weekly and include the activity in your Leadership Standard Work. Engage other leaders to join and make part of their Leadership Standard Work.
- Ensure the Conditions Self-Assessment is completed monthly for the site. Engage others from your leadership team to divide the workload, which may be spread over multiple days and weeks within a given month.
General Responsibilities with COS
- Primary owner of site COS implementation and maturity.
- Be an example for and promote COS. Respect everyone. Regularly encourage and support usage of COS methodology (processes and tools) for daily execution, problem solving, and improvement to attain work team, area, process performance objectives. Support gemba and data-driven decision making.
- Develop, use, and improve Standard Work for your position; include ‘visual sweeps’ to maintain safe conditions, 5S routines, and machine guarding and PPE compliance. Also include regular checks of others, including line personnel, to ensure Standard Work attainment and procedural compliance.
- Lead the Site Steering Committee. Promote and support COS implementation via the documented methodology through the Site Steering Committee, including participation in the deployment of COS learning across the site.
- Provide leadership through appropriate COS behaviors that include coaching, gemba, change management, and fostering an open, participative environment.
- Utilize the Tiered Accountability process to monitor performance, initiate and monitor problem solving and improvement actions. Raise the need for help when required items or actions cannot be performed or financed by the site, assigned functional support personnel need additional support, or when stated completion dates do not support site needs. Hold yourself and others respectfully accountable.
- Teach and coach to develop people around their work responsibilities to ensure correct outcomes (working safely, quality and cycle-time and lead-time performance) and to build capability with COS methodologies, thought processes, and tools. Promote usage of the Coaching Card as a means of skill development for leaders.
- Occasionally observe various tier meetings as part of Leadership Standard Work. Coordinate and lead your daily tier meeting to review the prior day/week/month SQDC performance, improvement ideas, issues, and escalations for discussion and resolution by the team and immediate supporting functions. Advance outstanding needs from the site to your leadership as needed.
- Target 50% of time to directly observe work processes and listen to those performing the work. Make safety, performance, process, equipment, flow, and continuous improvement related observations; take and assign actions as required for problem solving and improvement.
- Review stated root cause analysis and corrective actions responses in completed RCCAs for safety and quality; coach and teach as required to drive proper, thorough analysis processes and corrective/preventive actions that include Control Plans.
- Initiate and participate in safety and quality improvement, problem solving, and lead-time reduction activities.
- Promote workplace and performance management standards defined through 5S and Visual Controls.
- Promote and demonstrate strong coaching and influencing capability, and problem-solving skills.
- Encourage benchmarking and site-to-site networking.
- Look for opportunities to use and share better practices and lessons learned across sites and divisions.
General Responsibilities
- Support the overall organizational strategy by developing and delivering operational plans and outcomes for the sites
- Develop annual business plans for the site, ensuring alignment with strategy, quantify business outcomes, develop cases for key projects, and ensure cross-functional integration
- Manage budget plans
- Manage and report on site performance
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience with 6-Sigma and Lean manufacturing strategies, techniques, and tools
- Experience interpreting strategy and policy to set and deliver objectives within medium to long timeframes
- Experience managing Capex projects
- Proven track record of improving profits, reducing costs, and streamlining plant operations to achieve significant financial improvements
- Experience managing performance for multiple departments and staff
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership and managerial attributes.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
- Able to sit, stand and walk around for long periods at a time
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in industrial or mechanical engineering; MBA preferred
- Minimum of 8 years of upper-level plant management experience
- Ability to travel regularly between assigned sites and up to 15% travel out of town to support facility initiatives
