The Platform Engineer team is responsible for the development, integration and management of technical frameworks deployed within private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platforms ensuring performance and scalability of complex analytical applications. This function must be able to identify various patterns for data acquisition, processing, and management with respect to differing data types, volume, velocity, and accessibility requirements supporting BI /AI /ML based applications. Building upon pattern identifications this functional area is responsible for collaborating with engineers and architects to develop analytical frameworks which will be the foundation of FedEx's Data and Analytics Platform. The summation of the frameworks will ensure the platform, data, and derived BI /AI /ML applications are scalable, reliable, and performant while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Leading cross-functional engineering teams from data acquisition to application development
  • Leading communication with business partners and teams across multiple organizations
  • Building tools, platforms, and pipelines to enable teams to clearly and cleanly analyze data, build models and drive decisions
  • Championing the adherence to best practices for future reuse in the form of accessible, reusable patterns, templates, and code bases
  • Interacting with senior technologists from the broader enterprise and outside of FedEx (partner ecosystems and customers) to create synergies and ensure smooth deployments to downstream operational systems
  • Designing, developing, testing and, deploying configurable, scalable, and robust data ingestion and transformation pipelines on public cloud
  • Implementing software solutions, including containerized microservices, on serverless and managed services on cloud
  • Reviewing requirements and translating them into elegant solutions
  • Leading architecture design discussions
  • Using CI/CD pipeline for promoting analytical solutions into higher environments through validation and operational gating and DevOps automation
  • Applying software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, analysis/design, documentation, coding standards, code reviews, source code management, build processes, testing, and operations

What You’ll Know:
  • Practical understanding of Debugging, Threading, JVM tuning, Object Pools, Exception Handling, Logging, Transactions, Object Oriented principles, Dependency management and Dependency Injection
  • Cloud computing concepts within a large and structured environment (Ideally Azure, but open to AWS or GCP)
  • Java
  • Spring Boot
  • Containerized software solutions on Kubernetes Service
  • Code Control and CI/CD with tools such as Gitlab, Jenkins, GitHub, SonarQube, Nexus.
  • Build Frameworks such as Maven or Gradle
  • SQL
  • Shell Scripting Concepts
  • Distributed Event Streaming Platform such as Kafka and messaging services such as JMS

Skills/Knowledge considered a plus:
  • Apache Spark and Databricks
  • Terraform or other IaC tool
  • Azure Cloud Platform services such Azure Event Hubs, Azure Spring Cloud, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake Store and Delta Lake Storage Layer.
  • Apache Flink

Platform Engineer II:
Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience. Two (2) years’ work experience in Platform Engineering or related field. Familiarity with conducting end-to end analyses, including data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, and presentations. General understanding of the industry, competitors, and evolving technologies. Experience as a member of multi-functional project teams. Strong oral and written communication skills.
Sponsorship is not available for Platform Engineer II.

Platform Engineer III:
Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience. Five (5) years’ work experience in Platform Engineering or related field. Familiarity with conducting end-to end analyses, including data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, and presentations. General understanding of the industry, competitors, and evolving technologies. Experience as a member of multi-functional project teams. Strong oral and written communication skills.

Platform Engineer Lead:
Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience. Seven (7) years’ work experience in Platform Engineering or related field. Familiarity with conducting end-to end analyses, including data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, and presentations. Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. Strong oral and written communication skills. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.

Colorado Residents Only – Compensation: Monthly Salary: $6,201.00 - $14,777.00. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range or starting rate of candidates hired in Colorado. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, your work location, how many years of experience you have, and comparison to other employees already in this role.
