Summary
The purpose of the Plumber position is to perform a variety of skilled plumbing installation and maintenance work at High Point Housing Authority (“HPHA” or “Agency”) sites. Work involves repair and replacement of items such toilets, faucets, water lines, sewer lines, and preventive maintenance on plumbing components. Provides consultation throughout the HPHA to maintenance personnel involved in plumbing maintenance. Requires on-call duty, including: varying hours, holidays and night calls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs a variety of skilled plumbing work and assists site maintenance crews, as needed.
- Analyzes defects or malfunctions in plumbing systems, determines cause of problems and formulates appropriate solutions.
- Replaces plumbing components such as: water heaters, water lines, toilets, showers, tubs, faucets, and bath accessories, pop up assemblies, lavatories, and hanging sinks.
- Repairs water heaters, faucets, leaks, unstop toilets, sinks and other drains, and garbage disposals.
- Removes and replaces broken sewer lines.
- Checks for and repairs gas leaks.
- Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing systems.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance.
- Receives and reviews written materials such as work orders and vacancy sheets.
- Inspects units periodically to determine maintenance needs and write up results.
- Takes emergency on-call duty, on a rotating basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational/technical training in plumbing, plus five (5) years of plumbing experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
North Carolina plumbing license. Possession of a valid, North Carolina driver’s license and the ability to be insurable under the Agency’s automobile insurance plan at the standard rate.
