HBS Executive Education brings together senior executives from the world’s most influential organizations, resulting in unparalleled diversity. We achieve our mission by working closely with faculty to design and deliver over 130 open enrollment and custom programs to over 13,000 participants annually, from over 130 countries.

Open enrollment programs range from a few days to a few weeks over a period of months, while custom engagements help largely Fortune 1000 companies implement strategic changes and build organizational capabilities. Most programs are delivered on the HBS campus, where Executive Education has nine dedicated classrooms and more than 500 dedicated bedrooms in three executive residences. To meet the diverse needs of our community, our programming now includes in-person, virtual, and blended options. The Executive Education department consists of open enrollment, global, and custom program portfolio management; guest services; marketing; corporate sales; program operations; technology services; enrollment and admissions; and finance.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Responsible for making budget decisions regarding programs, engaging in contract negotiations with hotels and other vendors, and authorizing spending related to their portfolio of custom programs.
  • Responsible for developing and managing the delivery of customized executive education engagements for corporate clients.
  • Provides overall management of the client relationship with HBS including: business development, proposal development and negotiation, program planning and evaluation, and partnership with program teams for program delivery and evaluation.
  • Will balance faculty development priorities, client program objectives, and commercial terms in a sustainable manner.
  • Custom Programs scope is not geographically bounded, and the role requires program development and delivery activities to be conducted on campus and off, including venues worldwide.
  • Will enhance/support relationships between faculty, researchers, and clients involved in the creation of intellectual capital of HBS.
  • Works with faculty and staff across HBS to strategically ensure integration and coordination of sales calls and participates in presentations/negotiations to senior executives regarding corporate educational needs ranging from Custom to Open Enrollment to blended learning.
  • Collaborates with the Custom Programs Business Development Team in developing new business opportunities, including proposal and client development activities.
  • Supports development of long-term, multifaceted relationships between custom clients and HBS/Harvard University (e.g., spanning ExEd, HBS Online, Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning, External Relations, and MBA Career Services).
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned

  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant work experience

  • Requires a record of significant program and management experience in executive education or other consultative service-focused business, developing high-level contacts, closing new business, and managing on-going client relationships.
  • Requires strong ability to manage multiple constituencies against the backdrop of changing priorities and complex projects.
  • Must have previous experience and a demonstrated record of success working with CEOs and other senior leaders of major corporations.
  • Requires previous experience in strategic planning, evaluation (including outcomes assessment) and development issues surrounding corporate programs.
  • Must have ability to establish and cultivate collaborative relationships with a diverse range of constituencies, including external communities, and a strong interest and experience in developing entrepreneurial business opportunities.
  • Must be self-motivated and confident with sound judgment and highly effective diplomatic and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct, and be comfortable with, international travel (travel will include Europe and Asia and may expand in the future).
  • A deep knowledge and understanding of, or strong demonstrated interest in, executive development, management learning, program design, delivery, and evaluation.
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of hybrid learning models and the application of new technologies desired.
Note: Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered at a lower salary grade (58).

Additional Information

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 2-3 days per week when a program is not in-session. This role is required to be onsite for the entire duration of a program when in-session. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
