Pre-K Teacher (Full-Time)

Responsible To: Eastern Scholar House Child Development Center Director

Compensation: FT/Non-Exempt

Summary:
To support the school readiness of preschool children. Provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children while they are in the school (classroom or outdoor play area). The development of lesson plans and Individual Goals for children, provision of on-going assessment and facilitation of transitions into and out of the program. Support parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children and encourage their involvement in all aspects of the program. Maintain on-going contact with families to assist with requirements in health, nutrition, family services, mental health, and special services.

Essential Functions:

1. Read, understand, and adhere to the Agency's Personnel Policies and Staff Procedures.
2. Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulation, and Child Care Licensing requirements.
3. Participation in on-going professional development through education, role modeling or mentoring.
4. Maintain record keeping and reporting systems to ensure accurate information, with timely completion and follow-up.
5. Maintain classroom records as required.
6. Insure implementation and completion of lesson plans.
7. Complete home visits and parent conferences as outlined in program requirements.
8. Analyze child assessment and quality assessments for the classroom.
9. Administer ongoing child assessment as outlined in program requirements.
10. Post schedule of daily routines, lesson plans and newsletter in a visible area.
11. Oversee supervision and management of children in the classroom in order to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment
12. Maintain the adult/child ratio.
13. Maintain limits for behavior which are appropriate and consistent.
14. Document weekly attendance in accordance with program requirements.
15. Complete duties as assigned by the Child Development Center Director.
16. Assist in tasks other than those listed which may necessitate rearrangement of daily plans.
17. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Agency policy
18. Be honest, reliable and dependable.
19. Respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children
20. Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.
21. Participates in program and/or agency fund-raising activities as directed by supervisor.
22. Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Education, Experience and Training:

1. Pre-employment Drug Screening/Criminal Record Check

2. TB Skin Test, INH card, or Risk Assessment prior to employment.

3. Submit to Random Drug Screenings as outlined within agency Personnel Policies.

4. Ability to lift 40 pounds.

5. Infant/Toddler CDA preferred and be willing to enroll immediately upon hire into a program to obtain a CDA within 2 years. Bachelor’s degree, IECE or other degree related to early childhood education preferred.

6. Individuals must clearly demonstrate the interest and ability to work effectively with children and adults.7. Must have a valid Kentucky Driver’s License.

8. Must be able to engage in a full range of motion (bend, squat, kneel, stretch, twist).

9. Must have reliable transportation, and the ability, and willingness to travel the service area as needed.

Number of Days:

Staff working in the Eastern Scholar House Child Development Center are scheduled year round with the exception of Holidays.In the event of inclement weather, fiscal constraints, and/or program needs; actual number of days may be reduced.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires occasional or frequent moderate physical activity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or exert force up to 40 pounds.

Other Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license and the flexibility and willingness to change schedules and duties as needed according to staff availability. Must be willing to travel the service area as needed. Travel is primarily local or within the service area during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Must maintain a high level of professionalism, demonstrated by a positive attitude, ability to function as a team member, and a commitment to the overall mission of the agency. Staff must be reliable, cooperative, and willing to accept supervision, show evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
