UAP is looking for a Principal of Manufacturing Design to join its busy Hudson Valley, New York workshop.

UAP collaborates with emerging and established artists, architects, developers, and designers to deliver creative outcomes for the public realm. A Principal of Manufacturing Design is responsible for providing leadership that supports a creative and collaborative team culture, supporting manufacturing design team operations, and conducting research on industry tools and advancements.

Responsibilities:

TEAM LEADERSHIP:

• Provide leadership that creates a positive and collaborative team culture and facilitate the tools to perform exceptional work
• Oversee and direct Manufacturing Design team in the delivery of the following design services to ensure project goals are achieved

Digital design and sculpting

Design-assist

Construction documents

Shop drawings and engineering coordination

Production files and drawings to support additive and subtractive manufacturing

• Provide and organize team mentorship and training to support team development and professional goals
• Support hiring and team onboarding and training
• Staffing of projects with consideration of project milestone deadlines and team strengths

TECHNICAL DESIGN LEADERSHIP:

• Inform and suggest project fabrication methodologies that meet project requirements
• Inform and support system design and detail development
• Meet with production teams and other departments to coordinate design development, production methodologies, and documentation requirements
• Oversee and develop quality control procedures to support team operations and ensure accurate and quality deliverables
• Monitor project productions to review outcomes and inform future work from project lessons learned

BUSINESS SUPPORT:

• Conduct research and development on industry design tools and fabrication methodologies

Design software and tools to support design development, digital sculpting, production files, documentation,

and visualization

Advanced manufacturing methodologies, including 3D scanning, additive manufacturing, milling and cutting,

metal bending

• Provide support to Business Development + Estimating teams by organizing the completion of preliminary models, system designs and take-offs
• Research software and manufacturing methodologies to improve business operations and add capabilities

• Bachelor’s degree or above in industrial design, engineering, and/or equivalent experience
• Minimum ten years of relevant experience in design and manufacturing
• Solid knowledge of various fabrication/installation
• Sound knowledge of technical design development and problem-solving ability
• Experience with laser 3D scanning and processing, and additive and subtractive manufacturing
• Able to work under pressure and with minimum supervision
• Excellent team player
• Strong work ethic, solution-oriented problem solving, and focus on delivery
• Appreciation and interest in art and design
