Probation Supervisor Job at Virginia Dept of Juvenile Justice
This position involves supervisory, administrative, and professional work in the Court Service Unit in the Hampton Juvenile Domestic Relations Court. The incumbent is responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of Probation Officers to ensure compliance with State standards and regulations and ensure that the full range of services are provided to juveniles on Probation and/or going through the Court process. The Probation Supervisor conducts periodic reviews of case files, reviews and approves a wide range of reports to include Pre-Disposition reports and commitment packets. The Probation Supervisor is responsible for interpreting standards, laws, and regulations, and participates in all program development and evaluation of Probation services. The Probation Supervisor enters and monitors data entered in the Balanced Approach Data Gathering Environment (BADGE). In addition, the Probation Supervisor is responsible for maintaining positive working relationships with law enforcement agencies, Judges, other Court officials, and community agencies. Must also provide required performance evaluations on all staff under his/her supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of federal, state, local, and public laws and ordinances relating to criminal justice is needed
- Knowledge and experience using the Balanced Approach Data Gathering Environment (BADGE), and MS Office programs
- Considerable working knowledge of the principles and practices of Court proceedings and social work treatment modalities, and the ability to apply that knowledge to specific case
- Demonstrated ability to oversee the development, evaluation, and administration of a variety of diverse programs within the unit and with other agencies is important
- Demonstrated ability to manage work responsibilities in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
- The ability to plan effectively and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing are important.
- The qualified candidate will have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, other agencies, and public officials, socioeconomic groups and populations.
- Valid driver’s license is required by the date of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- A related degree
- Experience counseling maladaptive juveniles in a Court setting
- Considerable knowledge of the code of Virginia related to juveniles and families
- supervisory experience in a juvenile Court setting or progressively responsible experience in leading projects, teams, or assigning, monitoring, and assessing the work of others
