Major Accountabilities:

Coordinate Department Activities:

• Drive increased yield, efficiency, and throughput through daily analysis of operator logs, lab data, process trends, and shift reports. Use key data to make process adjustment recommendations to Operations Manager
• Ensure plant operations staff is producing GNS/whiskey/gin to meet production forecast and customer demands
• Coordinate "special projects" such as custom whiskey, small batch gin, wheat vodka, etc.
• Ensure production expectations are met by our operators through effective coaching
• Bring to the attention of plant operations equipment and process issues that affect production and determine solutions
• Train with Master Distiller in the art and science of modern and classic alcohol production
• Assist the Master Distiller and Operations Manager as necessary in the performance of his/her duties

Training

• Update and develop a training program with clear expectations of operator responsibilities to ensure alcohol is produced with the highest quality and efficiency
• Hold training sessions for operator and shift manager groups as it relates to cooking, fermentation and drying operations

Maximize Production & Efficiency

• Perform departmental data analysis to optimize yield, reduce costs and /or improve throughput
• Execute plant experiments to improve yield, efficiencies or reduce costs
• Monitor and verify maintenance completion to ensure maximum equipment uptime
• Report monthly on actual and forecasted key performance indicators as they specifically relate to cooking, fermentation or dryer house

Participation in SEMS, ERT and PSM Programs

• Actively participate in all Emergency Response Team (ERT) training functions and respond to emergency incidents as needed
• Actively participate in all EHS functions
• Follow all documentation/procedural guidelines set forth by EHS department
• Assist EHS department in development and maintenance of PSM program for the distillery

Engineering

• Provide technical support to operations for process engineering issues
• Provide engineering design and review support for plant capital projects and manage projects as assigned
• Provide engineering review of process changes or new technologies
• Compile and/or develop new documentation for various process equipment

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

• BS in Chemical Engineering
• 2+ years of operational and/or related engineering experience
• Experience working in an alcohol distillery or related processing/manufacturing in industry as a process engineer or technical manager
• Applied experience in management and control of fermentation, distillation or drying systems is preferred
• Management experience preferred
• Emergency Response Training a plus
• CPR training a plus
