Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The Product Development Technician’s overall responsibility includes the scheduling, preparation, delivery, and documentation of rapid prototype sampling in the product development process. The candidate will work closely with production and quality staff to prepare samples and develop manufacturing procedures and quality standards. The Product Development Technician will be responsible for documenting processes and providing feedback and ideas to improve sample/product manufacturability and processability and will be responsible for executing scale-up activities to production. The Product Development Technician must have a focus in quality to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and will be required to test physical properties and evaluate the visual appearance of samples. This position will include both lab-scale and production-scale sample preparation.

Required Competencies:

Occupational Competencies

  • Handle chemicals: Knowledge of safely handle industrial chemicals; use them efficiently and ensure that no harm is done to the environment.
  • Mix chemicals: Familiarity with mix chemical substances safely according to recipe, using the proper dosages.
  • Perform Chemical Testing: Familiarity with perform chemical experiments with the aim of testing various products and substances in order to draw conclusions in terms of product viability and replicability.
  • Documentation: Write and present results and conclusions in a clear and intelligible way that provides feedback in the sample creation and scale-up processes.
  • Chemical products: Experience with the offered chemical products, their functionalities, properties and legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Apply safety procedures in laboratory: Experience with make sure that laboratory equipment is used in a safe manner and the handling of samples and specimens is correct. Work to ensure the validity of results obtained in research.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment: Knowledge of clean laboratory glassware and other equipment after use and it for damage or corrosion in order to ensure its proper functioning.

  • Writing: Communicating effectively in writing. Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses. Ability to document Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Chemistry: A basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical reactions. The ability to learn the composition, structure, and properties of substances and the processes and transformations that they undergo; the uses of different chemicals and their interactions, production techniques, risk factors, and disposal methods.
