About the role

As we grow, we are looking to fill a Technical Writer role, which will be embedded on the Event Tickets Center product team to create content that will guide our users through the best practices of configuring and using ETC workflow product(s). You will work closely with our product and engineering team to develop guides, walkthroughs, feature spotlights, and other written assets. As well as memorializing the product feature set and ensuring as software is improved the documentation can be easily maintained to grow w/ the enhancements. The technical nature of our products will require empathetic and nuanced communication to ensure success for a variety of user personas.

We value both critical thinking and collaborative approaches, and you will have both autonomy and support as you work toward these goals. Along the way, you will have input into product direction, and opportunities for technical learning and leadership.

There are many here who appreciate good documentation, so you will be working with an eager and excited team motivated to make our written resources exceptional.

Things you’ll own…

· The content, maintenance, augmentation, and standardization of the Event Tickets Center product documentation, which includes an administrative guide, user guide, how-to guides, and tutorials (centralizing in online doc tools, such as HackMD or Google Docs)

· The user experience with those documents, to ensure a high-quality interaction when they seek assistance or guidance from our written assets

· The organization of content in a way that makes it easy to follow and to discover, and facilitate good interactions with our instructions and references

· Enforcement of our style standards, and mentorship of non-writer colleagues (developers, QA engineers, product managers, solutions engineers) who contribute to our documentation pages

· User advocacy in all discussions

Things you’ll help with…

· Augmenting and improving our existing product documentation style guide to ensure a consistent voice across our written assets

· Design improvements in the Event Tickets Center products (InspiraTools / InspiraSites), as it relates to user experience and ease of explanation

· Cross-team writing projects that focus on a high-quality user experience across multiple products in our suite

· Continuously improving our users’ experience with support, as it relates to ease of self-service and the efficacy of our written materials

· Building workflows related to documentation as part of the software development life cycle and release process

· Contributing to our technical writing team’s charter and standards

Things you’ll help build…

· Best practices for producing consistent documentation across a multi-product suite of software tools

· How to break down complex topics into easily consumable user guidance (our engineers contribute to our documentation, so there’s a mentorship aspect of this role)

· A quality mindset across the team, as part of your user-oriented approach to providing a great experience with our software and its documentation

· Industry trends and new technologies related to producing great written assets

Things you’ll learn…

· Building documentation content and systems for enterprise-class, systems-oriented software that serves users in a fast-paced, high-transactional environment

· Any tools and technology we use, for the portions you don't know already

You have…

· Experience with some combination of: documenting developer-focused software, writing API documentation, the Java programming language, documentation-as-code and/or GitHub workflows, coordinating content contribution from non-technical-writer sources (e.g., developers, solutions engineers, support)

· Experience writing for both business and technical (IT) personas

· Excellence with the written word in the English language. Your grammar and style are correct and consistent, your work is clear and concise, and you tell a good story.

· Experience bringing together information from many sources into a coherent narrative

· Good organization and collaboration skills, especially in distributed team, and a desire to bring thoughtfulness and empathy to all of your work

· Curiosity and a willingness to learn new technologies. You enjoy getting to know the software well as you write about it.
