Product Test Engineer Job at Vortex Optics

Description:

Vortex Optics is looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting finished product testing of the XM157 Fire Control, scheduling company resources needed to support the testing activities, and managing the monthly reporting requirements for product quality. You will be the primary point of contact for customer representatives who will witness and approve product lot qualification activities. This role will require you to be technically proficient in the diverse product qualification activities of the XM157 program including environmental, optical, electrical, and pyroshock testing. In addition, you will develop a broad working technical knowledge of a quality management system built for high volume production of advanced products while gaining significant professional experience tracking and reporting on key quality metrics, and as a key team member interacting with contract personnel on the XM157 Fire Control program. As a member of a small team of technical personnel, you will have a direct effect on the development and production of the world’s premier Small Arms Fire Control system.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conduct Lot Acceptance Testing for the XM157 Fire Control Program, this includes:
  • Performing required product testing activities
  • Scheduling and utilizing additional company resources as needed to conduct product testing
  • Recording and reporting product test results, following quality program requirements
  • Communicating with Customer Representatives (Defense Contract Management Agency) and coordinating testing to allow

for regular witnessing/auditing of the qualification tests by the representatives

  • Submitting monthly reports on the results of Lot Acceptance Testing
  • Tracking testing results and compiling reports on key quality indicators on a quarterly basis
  • Preparing and presenting product quality reports to Vortex management and Customer Program personnel during regular program meetings
  • Request, receive, and report on consumables required for testing activities, i.e. ammunition, firearms
  • Critically evaluate and improve product test equipment and methods
  • Maintain documented calibration and certification of test equipment
  • Collaborate with other members of the technical team to drive product and process quality improvement
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Self-Motivated, Self-Tasking, Mission Oriented
  • 7 years of experience in a quality control position within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong work ethic, good mechanical ability
  • Experience with and ability to safely handle firearms
  • Very good organizational ability
  • Natural interpersonal and communication skills, experience with running quality control activities with multiple people, resources involved
  • Significant experience with modern quality control tools, methods, and software
  • Critical thinking, problem solving ability, good technical comprehension skills
  • Professional experience creating technical presentations that cover key quality metrics in a digestible format
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Four-year degree in a technical field with an emphasis in manufacturing or quality
