Reports to: Packaging Manager or Packaging Assist Assistant Manager
Role Objective: The Production Shift Lead is responsible for managing the production line making sure the operators are supplied with the correct materials, the machines are in good working order, and organizes production floor for optimal efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Drives production by keeping team supplied with materials and keeping machines in working order.
- Making operator changes as machines go down or as materials are available to keep production flowing.
- Assists operators with problems to keep the machines running at all times.
- Organizes production floor throughout the day to keep clutter at a minimum and removing any safety hazards.
Essential Functions:
- Writes maintenance work orders (to be approved by Packaging Manager or Packaging Assistant Manager) as needed after trouble shooting a stopped machine.
- Addresses immediate concerns in productivity and communicates more complicated concerns to Packaging Manager or Packaging Assistant Manager.
- Knows when to move operators to another machine if their machine is down or if a change in the day’s production priorities or staffing changes.
- Moves packers to better support the flow of production
- Helps with spool changeovers or assigns a packer to assist.
- Keeps distractions at a minimum for operators.
- Monitors end of shift clean up to keep machines and floor clean and clutter-free from shift to shift.
Physical demands/requirements:
- Good physical condition able to lift upwards of 60 lbs.
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Carry heavy equipment (occasionally, frequently constantly)
Work Environment/Conditions:
- Position requires possible working on weekends, possible overtime
- Position requires wearing PPE such as steel-toed shoes and safety-glasses. Some areas may require ear protection.
- Position is in a factory setting where it may become warm in the summertime. Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED with some experience in production lines.
