About the Families and Communities team

The Families and Communities team is developing two initiatives: the California Initiative focuses on ensuring that California communities are resilient, able to respond to and withstand ongoing change and adversity, and equipped to ensure that all residents-children, youth, families, and adults-are able to thrive; the Child and Family Initiative focuses on creating an equitable and sustainable two-generation system of quality care and support from prenatal to age three.

About the Partnership

The UC Berkeley-Haas School of Business (through the Center for Social Sector Leadership) offers this unique fellowship in philanthropy at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to provide next generation leaders the opportunity to engage with philanthropic and nonprofit leaders and work with a grantmaking team serving diverse issues and populations.

The vision for this partnership is to strengthen the future of philanthropy and civil society by providing recent graduates from diverse disciplines and backgrounds a professional-level introduction to philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. The goals of the fellowship are to 1) introduce recent graduates to philanthropy and the role of nonprofits to strengthen their impact in a future career and 2) introduce the Foundation to fresh ideas, new skills, and diverse perspectives. The fellow will join a cohort of six other fellows at the Foundation working on initiatives on the oceans, conservation and science, reproductive health, and organizational effectiveness. There will be quarterly activities for the cohort of fellows.

This position will directly support the Vice President of the Families and Communities team. The Vice President will also deploy the Program Analyst to work on diverse projects within the team.

While placed at the Packard Foundation and receiving direction from the Vice President, the fellow will also enjoy full support from UC Berkeley-Haas School of Business' Founder and Faculty Director of the Center for Social Sector Leadership. The Berkeley supervisor will provide context for the foundation world, access to resources for fellowship success, and personal coaching and supervision for the fellow. Since the purpose of the fellowship is to develop leaders, the fellowship also includes a professional development budget for the fellow to participate in relevant conferences, attend workshops and classes, receive professional career coaching, and develop specific skills and knowledge particular to the fellow's next career goal. Responsibilities

Position Description

This position resides at the Packard Foundation in Los Altos, California.

The Analyst will perform analyses and make recommendations on a variety of policies, projects, programs and issues regarding families and communities. This position will report to and take direction from the Vice President of the Families and Communities team.

Primary job responsibilities
Investigate data, trends, opportunities and gaps in the field to explore new strategies that will help families thrive. Conduct research and analysis and make recommendations on specific topics. Provide written reports and oral presentations to the team, other Foundation staff and trustees, grantees, and/or funding partners. Work closely with staff, grantees, funding partners, government agencies, and content experts to develop and implement families and communities strategies.
Professional Learning and Growth
Embraces the principle of being a "student always" by engaging in opportunities for training, workshops, seminars, continuing education pertinent to the position, or at the suggestion of the supervisor. Actively contributes to a team environment that fosters and promotes a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within the unit and at Haas. Engages in ongoing education to promote diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging by completing University sponsored certifications & training sessions (Ie: MEP Workshop, Implicit Bias Certification, LinkedIn Learning workshops, and other workshops & seminars offered by the University or Haas, as they are made available) or by engaging in external seminars & resources related to DEIB. Required Qualifications

The Analyst will need a strong background in topics affecting families and communities including but not limited to health, childcare, paid leave, economic supports, housing. The work will rely on familiarity, education, training, experience, or interest in these topics, especially as they intersect to create healthy families and communities.
Experience with policies that effect families' ability to thrive. Flexibility and tolerance for working with ambiguity in an organization undergoing strategic planning. Demonstrated strong initiative and self-motivation. Solid ability to multi-task and efficiently manage multiple simultaneous projects in diverse program areas with demanding timeframes. Demonstrated ability to structure analysis, perform synthesis, and provide written reports and oral presentations that meet project objectives and timelines. Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows software including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members. Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate level education in business, social science, public policy, public health, social work, social science, education, economics, law, medicine, or related fields. Knowledge of and experience with nonprofit issues. Strong background or interest in either child/family healthcare policy or early childhood education (ages 05).
Salary & Benefits

This is a 15 month, 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits with the possibility of extension. Annual salary is commensurate with experience up to $82,404.00.

It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,000 -$82,404.00 .
