The State of New Hampshire, Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services has a full-time vacancy for Program Assistant I.
Summary:
Performs diverse duties to assist in the coordination and execution of daily interment services at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery (NHSVC).

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree
36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience in a responsible clerical position, including experience in customer service or other related area.
License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to satisfactorily undergo a State Police records check.
2. Must maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties of the day and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
3. This position works outdoors for sometimes longer periods of time during all types of weather.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates that have personally interacted with members of the military, to include family members of deceased veterans.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates and oversees execution of daily committal services, to include posting daily service schedule, preparing interment locations, creating/placing temporary grave markers, and coordinating with families, funeral directors, clergy, military honors, and NHSVC staff to ensure completion of safe, timely, dignified, and honorable services.
Coordinates custodial tasks and snow/ice removal and mitigation, as necessary.
Receives, reviews, coordinates, and processes information requests pertaining to interment eligibility, cemetery policies, and other related topics. Utilizes and demonstrates caring public relations skills when communicating in writing, on the telephone, and in person.
Assists with compiling, preparing, and processing information and transmittal of records in connection with NHSVC interment requests. Interactions with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), funeral directors, clergy, family members, and other agencies. Enters data relating to the NHSVC into computer systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with VA and NHSVC policy.
Serves as primary back-up to schedule services, prepare documents, enter data required for interment services, and assist in maintenance of digital and physical burial files.
Prepares daily cemetery traffic control plan to include posting signage, managing traffic flow, and directing funeral corteges and guests.
After daily committal services, ensures signage is removed, equipment is returned to storage location, chapel is locked, and all paperwork is completed and signed.
Assists with compilation and submission of monthly and annual cemetery reports.
