ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. DESCRIPTION:


The Program Assistant for the Assessment & Testing Center provides responsive, courteous, and professional customer service while relaying detailed information regarding assessment and testing functions provided at the center for prospective and continuing students, faculty, staff and the general public. This position will administer placement, program entry, instructional, proctored and computer-based testing. This position will partake in light data entry and filing duties. This position will also perform cashiering duties including opening, closing and reconciliation procedures.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide quality customer service and communicate clearly in-person, over the phone, to students, faculty, staff, regarding center and general college services, policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically underserved populations) and create an educational environment that affirms commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Regularly participate in trainings and professional development opportunities to further knowledge and self-awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the services provided by departments within Student Affairs and Instructional areas in order to respond to and/or refer inquiries appropriately and accurately
  • Accurately maintain files, exams, and related records
  • Consistently maintain a secure testing environment by enforcing established procedures and policies including, but not limited to, identification, electronic devices, room monitoring, etc.
  • Perform cashiering functions to include: processing cash, check and credit card payments; enforcing security procedures to maintain safety of funds

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree and two years of experience in customer service and office administration, or testing; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven record of high quality performance, including but not limited to excellent customer service, punctuality, attendance, accuracy, etc.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse population of colleagues, staff, faculty, students, and others in a courteous, respectful and professional manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to express ideas and information in language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the recipient
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information, including maintaining compliance with FERPA regulations
  • Ability to complete work tasks as part of a team and independently, including taking initiative
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel and Outlook), internet resource navigation, and general office equipment use

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Ability to fluently speak another language in addition to English (Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Russian, or Ukrainian preferred)
  • Six months of cash handling experience, including operating a credit card terminal
  • Previous experience as a Pearson VUE Test Administrator
  • Previous experience in Washington Community and Technical Colleges

Supplemental Information

Beginning July 1, 2022, if a person has held a part-time hourly, or temporary position within an institution after July 1, 2022 they will not qualify for this position and cannot be considered further.

The provisions of WAC 357-04-045 requires:
a. The employee is employed twelve consecutive months or less;
b. The employee is employed for one thousand fifty hours (1050) or less in that same twelve consecutive month period which begins from the original date of hire or July 1, 2022, whichever is later; and
c. The employee is limited to one appointment only with the same higher education employer that meets the criteria in (a) and (b) of this subsection.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Part-time hourly employees who work 350 hours or more in any 12 month period are covered under the WFSE contract. Non-Permanent Temporary employees typically do not qualify for retirement and insurance benefits; however they may if they meet certain eligibility criteria.
