POSITION SUMMARY:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the overall administration of all activities under the Domestic Violence Prevention Initiative, and Indian Health Service project which aims to improve community response and access to intimate partner violence intervention for California tribal communities through increasing capacity and responding to health care needs in a culturally appropriate way. These activities include: monitoring the time line, working directly with partners, creating partnerships, conducting presentations and trainings, and coordinating evaluation activities. The Project Coordinator will be the main program contact, communicate with the tribes and tribal health programs, be responsible for completing program scope of work activities, and meeting with the team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Monitors program to ensure compliance with contract provisions and funding source regulations; recommends and facilitates implementation of procedural and operational changes to maximize service delivery and enhance revenues.
2. Provides training and technical assistance in behavioral health-related topics to member tribal health programs and tribal communities.
3. Monitors specifically funded program activities and special projects as assigned.
4. Acts as liaison and resource to tribal organizations and other service providers, county departments, state or other funding sources, and community and business organizations; participates in a variety of internal and external meetings, committees and coalitions; interacts with various planning councils and boards; answers questions and provides training and technical assistance as required.
5. Serves as an expert and a health education resource to tribal organizations, Native American organizations, as well as other professional organizations that serve Native Americans and their communities.
6. Gathers and assesses data for initial needs assessment, strategic plan, and subsequent relevant projects.
7. Coordinates the development, production, and dissemination of educational materials and promotional items.
8. Communicates health education needs, concerns, and resources regarding American Indian populations.
9. Prepares and disseminates all necessary reports.
10. Acts as representative with various workgroups, networks, and/or task forces.
11. Pursues funding opportunities to sustain and expand program activities, resources and longevity.
12. Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance. If employee has a valid license from another state, he/she must obtain a CA license within 2 months of hiring date.
2. Position requires 50%-60% travel throughout California.
3. Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Masters Degree in behavioral health-related field (e.g. social work, counseling, psychology) required.
2. Current, valid and unrestricted license to practice mental health in the State of California (e.g. LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) preferred.
3. Extensive knowledge of behavioral health terminology and treatment, including experience in evidence-based practices.
4. Understand principles, practices and techniques of program planning, development, evaluation, procedures of budget preparation and monitoring, including budgets involving grants, contracted services, and state and federal funding.
5. Ability to work on various computer programs such as word processing, and graphics software.
This position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Sections 472 and 473).
