The Project Manager will manage the NYCBenefits grant, a 3-year collaborative initiative by the Deputy Mayor’s Office of Strategic Initiatives, the CUNY Research Foundation, and the NYC Department of Social Services (DSS). NYCBenefits is a citywide initiative aiming to expand benefits access and improve the system for New Yorkers who are applying for, receiving, and recertifying for public benefits and services. The Project Manager will serve as the point person for the Benefits Plus Learning Center’s cohort of community-based organizations on training, publications, and technical support.
Job Responsibilities
Work closely with the Benefits Plus Learning Center (BPLC) staff, cohort CBOs, and NYCBenefits administrators to ensure the successful development and execution of a citywide effort to expand benefits access in New York. This role will involve working closely and collaboratively with a broad range of individuals and agencies.- Based on assessments, co-design, schedule, and coordinate training courses (both in-person and virtual) for cohort CBOs.
- Provide in-person and virtual trainings to community partners on fundamentals of public benefits, and support BPLC staff conducting training on more complex topics. Utilize a system to track and evaluate training evaluations. Follow up with participants, as needed.
- Create an assessment/survey tool to determine agenda items for meetings/convenings based on needs of partner CBOs. Schedule and facilitate regular meetings/convenings with CBOs to create a learning community where partners can share challenges and best practices. Based on these meetings, compile, analyze and prepare reports on suggestions for policy changes to advance systemic improvements to public benefits.
- Schedule and facilitate regular technical assistance and case consultation calls/meetings with cohort CBOs, including one-on-one support calls, to identify benefits trends and challenges.
- Develop a system to track and respond to inquiries from community partners, compile reports periodically. Triage complex cases. Follow up with agency staff as needed.
- Design a system to track the outcomes of the work of cohort CBOs. This can include tracking the benefits (and value of benefits) received/maintained, common benefits issues and challenges for CBOs and their clients/community.
- Ensure that all cohort CBOs have access to the Benefits Plus Online manual and other materials to assist them with benefits counseling. Provide training and technical support to staff on effective use of Benefits Plus Online.
- Assist with the design and development of forward-facing culturally and linguistically appropriate materials on public benefits for clients of CBOs.
- Prepare reports, as needed, for the grant.
- Other responsibilities as identified by funding authority and/or BPLC team. Oversight of grants management and deliverables.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, political science, or related field.- Project management experience, including strong time management, organizational skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of benefits for children (SSI, Social Security survivors Benefits, SNAP, WIC, childcare, tax credits, etc.).
- Ability to be flexible.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with stakeholders across agencies.
- Strong public speaking and training skills.
- Public and/or nonprofit work history.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Teams and Excel.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to travel throughout NYC, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with public/government benefits and/or low-income populations/community.
- Experience with Salesforce

Salary Range: The annual compensation range for this position is $61,765 - $80,000. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to experience and performance.
