The Environmental Project Manager plans, directs, and coordinates activities of designated projects (remediation, emergency response, industrial services), as well as provides quality control and quality assurance for assigned projects on a daily basis to ensure that goals or objectives of the project(s) are accomplished on time and within the prescribed budget. The Environmental Project Manager is expected to take ownership of assigned tasks, often without specific guidance other than the goals and objectives of the organization, and demonstrate leadership through technical expertise, flexibility, and competency with not only all company functions and procedures but also industry-specific means and methods. The qualified candidate must have a demonstrated successful background in managing Environmental or Emergency Response Operations in a fast-paced environment. A technical background will be needed in order to provide oversight of environmental operations in adverse situations and the expertise and ability to direct the personnel, talent, and scope of services to provide a profitable solution to meet the customer’s needs.


Positions reporting to this position:
Assistant Project Manager Environmental, supervises site personnel on a project-basis only


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and supervises work on hazardous waste sites in a safe and efficient manner
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
  • Assigns and monitors all work being performed by Company personnel and subcontractors on hazardous waste remediation and environmental response projects. Operates in conjunction with other operations managers to ensure product quality
  • Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects
  • Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
  • Assists in procurement of labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for assigned projects
  • Oversees accounting and other project documentation
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and administering site safety plans, division audits, and jobsite critiques through site and division visits
  • Assists with the preparation of bids and proposals
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained to company standards and maintains communications with Mechanical Department regarding equipment used on project
  • Assists with the preparation of project reports for management, client, or others
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies, schedules or plans as required
  • Monitors Customer Service updates from the field and others about projects in a timely manner
  • Requires contact with customers, prospective customers, and field operations staff and regular contact with general office staff and outside professional organizations in order to grow revenues
  • Assists with expanding and increasing sales with technical buyers
  • Confers with project/division personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems
  • Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies
  • Carries out project management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Required Certification/Licensure: HAZWOPER, CPR, first-aid, Industrial Safety Management. Valid Drivers’ license.


Experience Requirements: Five years or more related experience in environmental remediation industry; three of which must be of project manager status or equivalent.


Knowledge/ Skills:

Strong ability to effectively communicate technical information to all types of people, both verbally and in writing; multitask and coordinate confusing and often conflicting priorities; strong communication, decision-making, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.


Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift/carry materials up to 50lbs., move about the office, turn on and operate a computer in the applicable environment, communicate efficiently and effectively on the telephone or in person, and complete required paperwork.


Travel: Subject to long, irregular hours. Must be able to travel 75% of the time. Driving for extended periods.


Working Conditions:
Indoor and external working environments. Regularly exposed to noisy, loud environment; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. Some exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, risk of radiation, and vibration.
