Job Description:

The proofreader is responsible for fact-checking and proofreading content for articles, webpages, emails, videos, and other marketing materials, which are designed to showcase the firm’s industry- and service-specific knowledge for clients, prospective clients, and the general market. They review and edit content at various stages of the process, in Word, PDF, and online formats.

The proofreader will need to apply style guidance carefully and consistently but also be flexible enough to understand – and suggest – changes and exceptions. They will be a contributor to our continually evolving internal marketing style book.

Beyond basic grammar concerns and typos, the proofreader will look for concerns related to voice, tone, intended audience, layout/appearance, and marketing messaging, including potential legal, regulatory, and reputational risks to the firm.


Qualifications

At least 3 years of successful experience as a proofreader. Desired qualifications include:

  • Excellent attention to detail while also addressing the larger context of a project
  • Ability to understand and revise complex subject matter without changing the meaning
  • Strong knowledge of English composition, including grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and source citations
  • Fluency with contemporary technology, especially Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat, internet navigation, and project management software such as Workfront
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with people across the organization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, multitask, manage a busy workflow, and solve problems effectively
  • Strong knowledge of, or experience with, AP Style
  • Successful completion of a brief proofreading test
