Props Designer Job at Wilmette Park District
Job Summary: The Props Designer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of props in a production. This role collaborates closely with the Production Stage Manager, Director and fellow designers on the production team to attain artistic vision for the show. This role reports to the Recreation Supervisor.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Attend pre-production and production meetings
- Meet with design team to attain aesthetic vision for the production
- Attend rehearsals as necessary
- Attend technical rehearsals as necessary; discuss notes with design team and/or actors
- Ensure relevant design aspects are within budget and at performance level prior to tech week and/or show opening
- Determine the props, furniture and set dressing requirements of production
- Determine a timeline to rent, construct or borrow props aligned with rehearsal schedule
- Collaborate with production team to determine the need for rehearsal props
- Return rented or borrowed pieces to owner after strike
- Coordinate purchasing needs with Recreation Supervisor and submit reimbursements within 2 weeks of last show date
- This is a stipend position paid during the Wilmette Park District payroll cycle occurring during performance dates
- Appropriate taxes will be withdrawn from stipend
- Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee, attend and participate in required safety trainings
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs

- Excellent verbal skills necessary and ability to maintain professionalism
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Skilled in problem solving, creating contingency plans, and handling emergencies
- Superior organizational abilities, attention to detail, initiative and independence
- Ability and willingness to meet deadlines and handle the work for the production

Education and/or Experience:
- Degree in theater or equivalent professional experience
- Previous work with childrens theater, community or professional theater
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Frequently required to talk or hear, feel and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to stand, walk and sit, climb or balance and push/pull objects
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
