Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Rowan County is attractively and conveniently nestled between the state’s largest city and its Capitol. Rowan County is made up of more than 20 departments and nearly 1,250 employees that are committed to providing a wealth of services to County residents and businesses.
The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-time Fire Inspector/Investigator. The position assists the Fire Division of the Emergency Services Department with fire investigations and inspection duties; responds to working fires and multiple alarm incidents to assist in providing command and control activities; and testifies in court as an expert witness; on call basis, variable hours, and rotating schedule which may include nights and weekends; work hours will not exceed 999 hours per calendar year.
Requires extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and County policies, procedures, and regu-lations relating to fire investigations; considerable knowledge of the methods and tech-niques of fire scene investigations; knowledge of hazardous materials and their safe han-dling; and the ability to conduct thorough fire scene investigations and determine the fire’s origin and cause.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma supplemented by community col-lege level courses in Fire Science or related area and full-time or volunteer experience relat-ed to emergency services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; NC Inspector Level I certification or ability to obtain within one year and a valid driver’s li-cense is required; previous experience in fire investigations is preferred.
Pay Rate: $20.94 - $23.03 per hour (commensurate with training and experience).
