Position Description – Operations Manager - Lumberton
Reports to – Chief Manufacturing Officer
Reports include – Lumberton plant manufacturing operations team.

Role Summary:
Is responsible for the effective and successful management of labor, safety, productivity and quality control as established and set for the Operations Department. This includes enhancing operational procedure, systems, and principles in the areas of information flow and management, business processes and management reporting while looking for opportunities to expand systems. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company's policies and the applicable laws.

Key Responsibilities:
  • HR:
o Provide leadership to operations supervisors with review/approval responsibility for all operations employees
o Communicate job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions
o Manage operations staff levels, wages, hours and contract labor to revenues
o Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline employees
o Plan and review compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures
  • Operations:
o Work closely with Chief Manufacturing Officer and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation.
o Maintain safe and healthy, injury/accident-free workplace work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations
o Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends
o Forecast requirements; prepare an annual budget; schedule approved expenditures; analyze variances; initiating corrective actions
o Contribute to the development, prioritization and execution of capital projects
o Meet or exceed operations labor budget expectations
o Review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment
o Develop operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce, and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping
o Track vendor pricing, rebates, and service levels
o Serve as primary point of contact for operations when review of process data is needed to respond to customer inquiries.
o Communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints
o Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at daily meetings
o Select raw materials for use in production that will meet customer specifications
o Oversee chemical, packaging and raw fiber inventories
o Work with the Maintenance and Reliability Manager to ensure that the assets are maintained in good working condition
o Any other duties and responsibilities fitting the role as required.

Requirements

Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressively successful and related experience in the pulp/paper , with familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Well developed planning, organizational, leadership and project management ability.
  • Proven written, verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Profound customer/stakeholder orientation with a commitment to quality and efficiency.
  • Strong financial and business acumen (budgeting, reporting, analysis, etc.).
  • Proven ability to negotiate and close deals.
  • Strong collaboration, management and leadership skills (building teams, coaching, mentoring, delegating, monitoring, providing feedback, etc.)
  • Proven ability to think strategically, critically, solve problems, address and resolve conflict and decide wisely.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative, attention to detail, a sense of urgency and a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to assess priorities among multiple pressures, handle stress effectively, delegate clearly and work effectively through others.
  • Honest, forthright, dependable and of the highest integrity.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite and MRP / ERP systems
Travel
  • Some business-related travel may occasionally be required.

We are offering a salary of $95-120K/year based on level of experience. Bonus and relocation we handle on a case-by-case basis but would strongly prefer to source someone locally if possible.
