Main Function
  • Working supervisor overseeing daily functions and personnel management in Spin QC labs at the Chestertown location.

Qualifications/Job Requirements
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent including science/general chemistry courses.
  • College education preferred.
  • Must be a leader who has excellent people skills and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team, and work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must be computer literate, able to work with Microsoft applications, and able to learn and use company business software.
  • Must be able to transport up to 40 pounds.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works in the laboratory to help with workload; this will include performing hands-on laboratory tasks such as testing disks, making standards and vats, performing titrations, troubleshooting failures, etc. (It is to be understood that managing the departments/employees will not require 40 hours of the Spin QC Supervisor’s time each week; the remainder of time should be devoted to working hands-on directly with your department/employees in any laboratory activities.) *

  • Personnel Management:
  • Maintains records of each employees' attendance (including vacation, sick time, time off without pay, overtime, etc.). Reviews timecards for accuracy and approval and submits them in a timely manner to Payroll for processing. *
  • Assists employees with questions or problems they have regarding work assignments, priorities, safety, personnel issues, etc. *
  • Coaches and develops staff, fosters a team atmosphere. Separates friendship from business. Asserts oneself, rather than taking a passive approach to addressing issues. *
  • Counsels employees when necessary and recommends to Management such personnel actions as disciplinary action, transfer, termination of employment, etc. Documents any issues, counseling efforts, etc. *
  • Evaluates employees using the Company's performance appraisal system. *
  • Oversees training and orientation of new employees and offers additional training as needed. Offers re-training when necessary. Sets up and maintains cross training of staff. *
  • Participates in the hiring process for new technicians by attending interviews/tours and giving input on candidates’ ability to perform the job and fit in well with the team. *

  • Daily Functions:
  • Assigns daily tasks and room assignments to QC technicians. Check on team throughout the day to be sure that any issues (equipment, people issues, chemicals, product issues, safety, etc.) are addressed promptly. *
  • Assures the QC staff is following the SOPs and guidelines for Spin QC. *
  • Seeks advice from R&D, when needed, to determine whether chemicals need adjusting or whether Spin production need to be temporarily placed on hold until problem is resolved and handles accordingly. *
  • Communicates all issues to the Quality Manager, Operations, and/or R&D in a timely manner. *
  • Prepares standards and vats used in the daily testing of Spin disks and performs titrations. *
  • Conducts performance tests on startup and hourly disk samples and records all performance data on data sheets and logs. *
  • Interprets data and makes reagent adjustments as needed and records such adjustments data sheets and logs.*
  • Assures that all QC documents (ex. QC data sheets) are completed accurately and the same day the work is done. *
  • Assures that daily task checklist is completed each day, including end of shift activities, making sure labs are clean and in good working order for the next shift. *

  • Participates in lean activities, including but not limited to:
  • Lean training and lean events such as kaizen or a 5-day event. *
  • 5-S program in department or other areas assigned. *
  • DMAICs. Continuously looks for ways to improve both the departments and own individual efficiencies and time management, as well as ways to improve any aspect of the Company’s operations and develops and implements DMAICs accordingly. *
  • Encourages staff to participate in all the above. *

  • Conducts oneself professionally and leads by example. Maintains confidentiality of company information and personnel information. When in doubt, does not share information until has asked whether it is appropriate to do so. *

  • Assists other departments as needed. *

  • Complies with all Company policies (ex. personnel, safety, etc.). *

  • Performs other duties in support of business needs as assigned. (Such duties may or may not be essential functions of the job.) *

Environmental Factors & Physical Demands
  • Works indoors in a laboratory setting.
  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, reading, writing, transporting up to 40 pounds, operating a computer and working with chemicals, glassware, and lab instruments.
  • Requires good manual dexterity, supervisory, communication, judgment, decision making and troubleshooting skills, ability to multi-task and attention to detail.
