Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The role of the Quality Control Lab Coordinator is to carry out laboratory testing, analyze results and complete record-keeping paperwork to aid in the success, growth, and future of Weis Markets by creating, implementing, and executing best in class quality control, food safety, and sanitation standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct daily bacteriological plating and testing of all items produced by the Weis Markets Ice Cream and Milk Plants.
  • Conduct environmental testing for the Weis Meat Plant, Ice Cream and Milk facilities and communicate results.
  • Responsible for maintaining the product complaint program, communicating with Category Managers and suppliers.
  • Maintain private label specification results and use data to determine products needing further evaluation and testing.
  • Assist in the handling of the private brand product inspection program and maintain the tracking database.
  • Partner with the merchandising departments to perform upkeep on the cutting process of existing products and new items.
  • Administer the Food Safety awareness and e-learning programs.
  • Obtain and track the Weis Markets ServSafe certification program to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Maintain and update Food Safety policies and procedures per the federal and state guidelines.
  • Provide Food Safety audit analytics and review/edit internal compliance requirements through the LPMS database.
  • Create individual and summarized Food Safety reports, communicate inspection deficiencies to stores and field/support center staff.
  • Submit store development new/remodel store drawings to state health departments for approval.
  • Monitor and communicate pest control provider recommendations to essential personnel to ensure corrective measures have been taken.
  • Monitor Kay Chemicals for the company and provide information to district operations staff.
  • Submit and review department invoices for payment in a timely manner through Accounting.
  • Work with department management to complete clerical tasks such as scheduling appointments and answering phones.
  • Update and maintain the Food Safety Website periodically.
  • Maintain and monitor Jolt software – associate profiles, location data, creating cooking logs / traceability documentation as needed.
  • Document and coordinate Human Resource related functions for the Food Safety Department.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred (not required)
  • Food Safety Certification preferred (not required)
  • Require good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to act with high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to follow directions and handle multiple tasks with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with the utmost confidentiality.
  • Core computer competencies including an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
