Position Summary
The program coordinator will lead the programming and engagement efforts of one of the six student development programs, Queer Compass. The Queer Compass Coordinator will build community, help develop the salient identity of LBTQIA+ students, and bring queer and trans* identity conversations to the forefront. While this position exists within its own program, all personnel within the Student Diversity and Inclusion Center work together to support each other. We encourage collaboration among all our student employees
Additionally, as part of the personnel within the Student Diversity and Inclusion Center, this position will support other center programs such as First Year Orientation, MLK Day of Service, Pride, Sex Positive Week, and support the other student development programs and collaboration among other student employees.
This student will:
- Establish student development strategies and annual goals for the program
- Develop and execute co-curricular programming for the academic year
- Manage and update social media
- Manage and update Queer Compass website
- Support LGBTQ+ identity by developing a salient through programming including but not limited to:
- Host lectures or conversations that speak to issues important to the Westminster LGBTQ+ community
- Plan social events
- Get students in contact with resources on campus
- Conduct annual assessment (quantitative and qualitative) on the program goals and campus wide goals
- Assist the SDIC with envisioning the Pride float each year
- Support SDIC staff in other Center operations
- Access and manage confidential information pertaining to students
This position reports to the SDIC Director.
Required Qualifications
- Previous training in diversity and inclusion
- Previous courses and/or knowledge in gender, justice, or diversity emphasis
- Experience and knowledge of working with underserved/minoritized student populations
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for LGBTQ+ identity conversations
- Must be an enrolled Westminster student
- Passion for justice
- Expectation to keep confidentiality and sign confidentiality agreement
