Opportunity for a Manufacturing Process Engineer to be part of our Research & Development (R&D) team to further our sustaining efforts and incorporate Design for Manufacturability into our R&D designs. This person is responsible for designing and developing new processes and procuring new equipment needed for New Product Development. This role allows Portescap to improve its responsiveness in meeting customer requirements of Time & Quality on new projects. This role reports into the Director of R&D and the position is located on-site in West Chester, PA.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct PROCESS IMPROVEMENT activities
    • Ensure repeatability and reproducibility of processes, testing, and measurement and analytical equipment
    • Specify manufacturing methods and part routings
    • Perform time studies or observe/capture standard work
    • Participate and conduct standard work (SW), Variation Reduction Kaizen (VRK), as well as other Kaizen activities to improve stability of processes
    • Specify and order tooling and equipment
    • Design and document fixturing and tools using SolidWorks software
    • Focus on sustainable, long-term success of processes
  • Act as PRIMARY OWNER for technical questions and challenges from operators.
  • Lead DAILY MANAGEMENT to drive Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity performance in area of responsibility
  • Perform ROOT CAUSE & COUNTERMEASURE analysis (RCCM’s) of internal quality issues
  • Perform basic TROUBLESHOOTING / REPAIRS of EQUIPMENT in area of ownership
  • Maintain DOCUMENTATION related to part routings, work instructions and inspection
  • Support NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT as needed

Job Requirements:


Critical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of quality systems and other process improvement tools
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing equipment and processes (laser welding, transfer molding)
  • Working knowledge of inspection and measurement tools (CMM, Caliper, Micrometer, Gages)
  • Familiarity with documentation and process control

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related degree OR equivalent experience
  • Three or more years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering – required
  • Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing / Problem Solving tools - preferred
  • Previous experience with Quality Systems and ISO requirements – preferred
