Meet the Team:

Dexcom is searching for an R&D Portfolio Director to drive the R&D portfolio management process in the Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) space. A successful candidate has a proven ability to lead a robust portfolio process with intake, prioritization, demand planning, financial modeling and overall budget deployment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Translate the Product/Technology Roadmap into Actionable Development Project Portfolio

  • Through deep understanding of the business and the product and technology landscape propose, gain alignment and manage the appropriate allocation of R&D investment across different product segments and technologies aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Drive Portfolio governance in partnership with -marketing product management and Dexcom Labs across all phases from Tech Dev through product development, regulatory approval and post launch product improvement.
  • Point person for project intake, opportunity scoring and prioritization.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of projects within the portfolio, identifying and mitigating risks and issues.
  • Work closely with R&D program managers to ensure the planned support and resources to deliver projects successfully are provided and where necessary trade-offs are assessed and recommendations made.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure that their needs are met.
  • Own quality of project contracts and proposals moving to approval.

Demand Planning for R&D labor resource capacity and Deployment

  • Partner with finance & functional leaders to drive the annual budget and quarterly budget refreshes
  • Manage resource demand planning, allocation and conduct trade-off analysis.
  • Provide analytics and dashboards focused on R&D spend and supply/demand.
  • Links project goals and objectives to commercial and financial outcomes

Project Level Profit and Loss / Financial Modeling including Product Costs

  • Partner with finance & core team leads to define the modeling and drive execution of project level P&L while partnering with commercial and operations teams to tie into the product-level LRP and regional financials.
  • Partner within R&D and with operations and finance to drive product cost targets and ensure portfolio and projects roadmaps align to meet the cost targets.

What makes you successful:

  • 10+ years of experience in project or program management, with at least 5 years in product portfolio management.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with at least 3 years experience directly managing a functional team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks and issues.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as Agile, Waterfall, Stage-Gate and Lean Six Sigma.
  • Strong understanding of the R&D product development process and lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with Project management and collaboration tools preferred (eg MS Project, Confluence/Jira, Smartsheet, resource allocation tools such as Changepoint, etc.)
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Experience in Med Tech industries developing electromechanical devices and software systems is preferred.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 15+ years related experience or a Masters degree and 10+ years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 7+ years of experience.

Exempt Salary Details

  • The annual base salary range for this role is $156,400 to $260,600. Final compensation package will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, business needs and market demand.
