The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Radio Operator position within the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program which provides support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in New England Regional Laboratory in North Chelmsford, MA. Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States. Selected candidates will also be required to undergo a federal security background check.

Role And Responsibilities:

  • Conducts weekly SHARES system drills
  • Participates in periodic disaster scenarios
  • Operates system during net disaster activations as available (hurricanes, insurrections, floods, earthquakes, wildfires, etc.)
  • Attends monthly DHS Shares teleconferences
  • Supports Emergency Response section in procuring and maintaining High Frequency (HF) radio equipment o Works with Section Chief, staff, responders, and HF radio Subject Matter Expert (SME) to identify needed equipment and software for establishing and maintaining connection to SHARES radio HF radio program
    • Generates purchase documentation for all orders
    • Creates and maintains inventory logs for radio equipment
    • Performs scheduled maintenance and ad hoc repairs of HF radio equipment
  • Works with the emergency response section chief, responders, and HF radio SME to develop or revise technical SOPs related to utilizing SHARES radio in emergency response activities
    • Reviews and updates technical SOPs
    • Offers expert advice and recommendations for training of response personnel on standard procedures
    • Supports the development of visual aids and presentations for the delivery of training on technical SOPs
  • Supports use of SHARES radio program in exercise planning and contingency planning o Reviews existing exercise plans; identifies deficiencies; coordinates with response personnel to revise plans
  • Supports the delivery of training related to exercises and contingency plans
  • Works with branch and section staff and management to expand situational awareness with other federal and state agencies using SHARES in New England.
Qualifications And Education Requirements : Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; able to pass a Federal Background check; possess a HR/GED, some college. Minimum 2 yrs of HF Radio Operation or related experience. Must have the ability to use Windows XP, MS Word, MS Excel; Excellent communication skills (spoken, written, formal presentations, casual conversations, etc); Good hearing (natively or with the use of adaptive technology); Great organization abilities; Superior aptitude for technology in general and ability to learn radio technology in particular. Amateur Radio License, Familiarity with electronics, Understanding of shortwave radio and radio propagation and familiarity with solar weather – desired. Local travel may be necessary.


Hours & Compensation:
Full-Time position working 24 hours per week $18.01 per hour, vacation/ sick/holiday leave.
