Position Summary

The ReBUILDetroit Post-Baccalaureate Research Assistant appointment is a 12-month position for a ReBUILDetroit graduate to become fully immersed in a biomedical research program for one year with full-time salary and benefits. This experience provides an opportunity to fully experience the rewards of a research career while solidifying credentials for pursuit of a graduate degree (PhD) in a biomedical research field. This position is supported through the ReBUILDetroit grant funded by the National Institutes of Health.


This is a 1-year grant funded position (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Scholars will conduct research at a laboratory that is studying a scientific topic of interest in a biomedical research program at Wayne State University or affiliated research institution and work under the direction of a faculty member who will be their primary research mentor.

    Scholars will also develop a Plan of Work that will ensure a strong graduate program application with the help of the research lab mentor, faculty members of the ReBUILD Detroit team. In addition, they will collaborate with the research mentor and post-bacc program manager on an approved list of course selections. Scholars will also continue to participate in the ReBUILDetroit learning community.

    All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent ReBUILDetroit graduate or graduating senior (graduating in current academic year) in good standing.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Interest in preparing for a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D program and a passion for biomedical research.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.

Anticipated Schedule

Monday – Friday, 37.5 Hours Per Week
